Space Cowboy Posted December 7 Posted December 7 (edited) Ironic, since japanese artists tend to whitewash characters in fanarts and then be like, "It's not that deep, it's just my art :)" Edited December 7 by Space Cowboy 7
D.Va Posted December 7 Posted December 7 Something so trivial bringing this much hostily and discourse is how you know we are ****** 1 2
Antisocialites Posted December 7 Posted December 7 is it that serious? it's a f*cking fanart that won't have any real impact for these characters. 1
Popular Post BrentB Posted December 7 Popular Post Posted December 7 And yet they're okay with a blonde-haired blue-eyed Sailor Moon (and have largely been for decades at that). 10 1 5

B-Luke Posted December 7 Posted December 7 > hates to see a black character > proceeds to use AAVE Make it make sense. 3 1
Arthoe Posted December 7 Posted December 7 Why should we be caring what a dude with 1k followers has to say on Twitter? Clicked on one of their tweets, had google translate it and found out that this person is a Shinzo Abe apologist and Fumio Kishida fanboy. 2 1 3
elevate Posted December 7 Posted December 7 This is just plain racism, propped up by Twitter's intentionally divisive algorithm. Look this way again, please, and stop focusing so much on CEOs. 3 1

In fact they all have the colours of the rainbow this is her mom and daughter btw OT: Sounds like a weeb

And no shade but when the day comes that Japanese characters start looking Japanese, then they can complain about race swapping their cartoons. Edited December 7 by IsidoraMarí 1 5

Kylizzle Posted December 7 Posted December 7 Why are anime fans so obsessed w their characters like this if people drew the family guy characters as black their stans wouldn't care... 1
Bloodflowers. Posted December 7 Posted December 7 I thought this would be about Hollywood movies, not grown people discussing cartoons
smartalek22 Posted December 7 Posted December 7 3 hours ago, Rotunda said: What do you think fanart is? What I'm questioning is their use of the word fanart itself. If that character is written by a japanese artist to begin with, and thereby the original presentation of the character, that's not a fanart of other people's work. That's simply what the character is. If they really do mean fanart of an already established character, of another race, by a non-japanese writer, which they then changed, then I demand an example.
Archetype Posted December 7 Posted December 7 (edited) Ethnicity and race in anime makes absolutely zero sense, so if he can handle the plethora of "Japanese" characters that look Swedish, Brazilian, British, etc, then he can handle fanart that makes a character black. The only time this would be weird is if the character is based on a real person from Japanese history. Otherwise no. Edited December 7 by Archetype 2
