IBeMe Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 It was her last top 10 hit in the US (was a big success in 1999 and helped portray her in a different light with a uptempo bop that showcased a light hearted and fun side of her.) This type of sound could have helped her transition into the changing music landscape of the 2000s. After this song she took a short two year break and then came back with an amazing album (A New Day Has Come) but she could have also had Max produce some new singles for her or something instead she stopped having hit singles in the 2000s because she stook to an AC sound
Mtjjproducer Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 If i remember she did on her next album but that was right after the bubblegum pop bubble popped. It was that weird max martin flop era from 2002 or 3 before breakaway. 3
Buffy Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Ohhhh never knew he produced that. No wonder I've been listening to that smash for 20 years 1
tost1 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Max Martin + AC singers don't really work, same with Adele
Matthew Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 I didn't realize she didn't have any more Top 10s past the '90s. Surprising.
Attaboy Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 While a timeless bop, THWII is basically BSB/NSYNC/Britney cosplay. Beyond that one instance I don't think his style in the 00s makes sense for her
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 He produced 3 songs on One Heart album and none of them are particularly good compared to That's The Way It Is 1
prettyinpink940 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 As someone else pointed out, he did produce some songs on One Heart, although they weren't the strongest songs of the album. I guess it just wasn't the right fit for either one of them.
Mr. Mendes Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 They found each other at the wrong time. They worked together later, but that style just wasn't in at that point and the direction her career was going wasn't complimentary to it either.
allforyou Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 As others pointed out they did work together again on One Heart but in my opinion the only song that could've been a single was Love Is All We Need but I'm not sure if that would've done well. With that said, although That's the Way It Is was her last top 10 hit in the US she did transition well into the 2000s: A New Day Has Come and I'm Alive were huge worldwide hits; I Drove All Night did well too. All her albums during the 00s went platinum and overall she sold over 30 million albums during the decade, doesn't seem like a flop to me.

Yeah it was her last US top ten but tbh she did really well on the albums charts all throughout the 2000s. Actually even in the 90s during her peak she was always an artist who was massively successful with albums and then would have like a huge hit single here and there. She was way more of an albums artist in comparison to other 90s divas who led singles and did ok album sales wise. ———— I know a lot of ppl are saying she did work with Max after TTWII but they didn't work on singles just album tracks. I absolutely believe that has she recorded an album like Kelly's Breakaway in the mid 2000s she'd have her own The Emancipation of Mimi moment but instead of RnB she'd do it with the other popular sound of that time which was pop rock like Kelly's music. AC, safe, ballads but pop rock bops too. She totally could have done that pivot and still been a bigger chart force had she done it but she chose a different path I guess…still served her well and she ended up having the biggest female tour in 2007 at the time so she was still insanely popular but yeah would have been cool to have seen her charting singles wise too 1
