Moonlight Nation Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) I haven't listened to "MAÑANA SERÁ BONITO" yet, so I won't be mentioning it on my ranking. "PROVENZA" and "TQG" are both great songs, though. 1. "HIT ME HARD AND SOFT" 2. "SOS" . 3. "eternal sunshine" (very cohesive and consistently good listening experience, but for me it lacks the phenomenal stand-out tracks featured aplenty in my top 2) . 4. "Lover" (this one frustrates me because the Joel Little-assisted singles ("ME!", "You Need To Calm Down", and "The Man") are all atrocious and among my least favourites from Taylor. The tracklist order is also a mess. But I absolutely adore the other songs individually, many of which stand as Taylor's finest pop moments and overlooked career highlights) 5. "Short n' Sweet" (another mixed bag for me, where there are individual songs I love, but for me the album simply doesn't work as a front-to-back listening experience. Many jarring moments across the tracklist, and I also find "Lie To Girls" to be a major miss) . 6. "1989 (Taylor's Version)" (the superior 2014 version would probably be ranked at #3, but this re-recording was completely half-assed on all aspects, making it feel like a cynical cashgrab compared to the real effort and passion put on the "Fearless" and "Red" re-recordings. The bafflingly poor production and mixing were particularly egregious. This lack of care was also reflected on the Vault tracks, the majority of which feel like unfinished demos, don't even match the rich "1989" soundscape, and from the vocabulary + retrospective references, definitely not written during the original sessions) . . . 7. "THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT" (only judging the standard 16-track edition, as I haven't heard "The Anthology" extension yet. I found it shockingly awful. I had my grievances with "Midnights", but at least it had some undeniable stand-out tracks and memorable, catchy hooks. This one shows Taylor Swift at her worst. Countless moments of amateurish writing and exhaustingly overwrought metaphors, immature framing and perspectives on complex real-life situations that warranted deeper introspection, not to mention the excessive reliance on hyperspecific lore. Add an utterly dreary soundscape throughout the record to make it one of my least favourite listening experiences so far) Edited 5 hours ago by Moonlight Nation
