Yeah, but I think the intention is to replace the copper based lines with fibre based lines instead. Still might be able to use landline-based communication though.

I used to work as a Telecom Analyst and one of the things our company needs is a landline because they don't shut off if the power goes out. AT&T told us they were going to start charging us, like, $600 for every landline we have (we have hundreds at our customer locations) which was 20 times what they were charging lol.

 

I feel like there are a lot of people who still use landlines and they're probably people who fall into a category of vulnerable (old, poor, rural, etc.). They'll be deeply impacted by this.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there still a lot of residential blocks that use landlines to communicate with the entrance of the outside building door?
