Rush Posted December 4, 2024 Author Posted December 4, 2024 Is she correct that ballads are her strong point? 7 2
Buffy Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 My favorite song she sung is Only You (13 Reasons Why). Such a sad song! 2
Vixen Eyes Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 shes good in a studio at least! i particularly like her & the Scene era best 1
Thin White Duke Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 (edited) I wouldn't necessarily agree with the ballads thing, but she definitely has a distinct voice suited for great pop songs, of which she has many. She should totally explore more of the Good For You/Fetish/Bad Liar sound, she really pulls off the soft pop jam thing. I actually enjoyed quite a bit of Rare too, probably an unpopular opinion. Vulnerable still goes off, years later. Edited December 4, 2024 by Thin White Duke 5 1
Suilen Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Coming for that Grammy for Best Audio Book, Narration & Storytelling Recording. 2
original_lifeline Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Isn't it Julia Michaels who writes all of her songs? Which storytelling is she talking about 🫢 6 2
YourFavoriteWeapon Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 She's right, she may not be able to sing well but her voice does convey a lot of emotion and I do feel like it's suited for more mid-tempo/ballad songs versus upbeat pop.
bielneira Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 (edited) She's not good at storytelling either, but her voice is PERFECT for R&B-infused pop songs. Edited December 4, 2024 by bielneira
RiseAndShine Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 How can one be so self-aware and delusional at the same time? Girl, you are not a great storyteller, nor are you good at ballads. 1 1 7 3

She's not right. Her vocal depth is paper thin & she sings in monotone. She has moments (LYTLM, THWIW), but those are fueled by the production & lyric matter/controversy. Her voice is definitely not more suited for ballads, it's more suited for songs where the vocals don't matter and it's production driven/catchy. Bad Liar, LYLALS, SOL, It Ain't Me, Calm Down etc. 4 1 2
Wicked Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 How are you a good storyteller when you have writers? Good For You (A$AP Rocky ver.) and Fetish the only songs I use from her she should go back to that. 3
Junipero Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 "Great at storytelling" What stories has she wrote? 1 3 3 2
itshyolee Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Whew this thread. @ShadeIena @Selegend y'all need to wake up! 1
Onyxmage Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 She's right, her ballads and midtempos are always so good. 2
ChooseyLover Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 It's a shame that she let the haters get into her head. It's ironic she backs off from music at a time when nobody actually belts for their life anymore. All you have to do is carry a tune and have a pretty tone (not necessary, see Olivia Rodrigo and Gracie Abrams). 5 1
Rv1709 Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Well Kelly did say to her that her music is moving even if she isn't a big vocalist. For most of us, her live performances move us to find the mute button. 1
popmusicisdead Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 yeah stories written by other people that's called "narration" not storytelling babes 2 4 3
theblackestday Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 If by ballads and storytelling she means Stars Dance then tea
