Is Troye Sivan more relevant than Lil Nas X now?

I've been rewatching videos of the Sweat tour and tour dates from Troye's solo tour from the past year and realized how much bigger he has become as an artist with his new album cycle. Though he doesn't chart high with his singles, his albums have consistently good debuts and his touring base is becoming larger by the day. Troye has done 4 headlining tours, one co-headlining arena tour, sub headlined the biggest music festivals in the world and only seems to be rising. He has done tour dates in almost every major market and has done over 200 headlining shows.

By comparison Lil Nas is still a huge artist culturally and streaming wise. He has several #1 hits and has a cemented cultural legacy unlike any modern gay artist (maybe until Chappell Roan). He has 6 songs with BILLIONS of streams on Spotify and have staying power. He has several Grammy nominations and 2 grammy wins.  However his fanbase seems small. He has done a single headlining tour with 29 dates that only played in theaters. In America, Europe, and Oceania he only did Theaters and Pavillions and he has seldom been on large festival lineups.

Nas' last few singles have struggled to make a dent because he is using the same tactics that simply aren't hitting anymore. Troye is utilizing those same tactics much more successfully than Nas at this point and is reaping the benefits of it. It seems like Nas' schtick is generally wearing thin whereas Troye is making music more catered to himself that is garnering a more loyal and consistent fanbase.

Comparison with singles solely from Spotify:
Rush: 385 million

Got Me Started: 166 million

One Of Your Girls: 297 million

J Christ: 42 million
Star Walkin: (league of legends anthem collab): 456 mil

Light Again: 3 mil

Given what I've shown, is it safe to say Troye is more relevant at this point?

Taking the "make a thread to antagonize a specific ATRL user" gimmick to new extremes :deadbanana2:

Yes, it kind shows how charts and number ones are just metrics but not all artist need those to sucesfull

Well, yes.

Troye is certainly more respected than gimmick remix boy and that's way more important than any number.

Now? Yes, definitely. Troye's been cultivating a fanbase for a while now, which hasn't translated to mainstream domination like Lil Nas X had, but translates to more longevity.

Yes, this is what happens when you actually try and build a fanbase instead of relying on shock factor and related gimmicks for every release.

Haven't thought about it, but yes, it was actually pretty bad for Lil Nas...

They're both irrelevant. The difference is Nas will always be remembered because no one has done what he did as an openly gay black man and he definitely paved the way for more queer artists in the mainstream no matter how much white gays hate to hear it. You can't erase history.

Troye Sivan has been consistently irrelevant since the beginning of his career. So…congrats on the consistency I guess. KKKTRL should start streaming his music instead of constantly trying to bring down black artists and their achievements cause if those are the numbers he's pulling during his "relevant era" then :skull:

I mean, Troye was a well known YouTuber before deciding to become a singer :giraffe:

Let's be honest, barely anybody on the entire planet is willing to stream Lil Nas new songs.

Well, he can go on tour and count on a decent enough fanbase to buy tickets and fill his pockets. Let Lil Nas announce a tour for the same venues and nobody will go.

People tend to forget how well-known Troye actually is. Yes, his current era + Sweat elevated him immensely, but he's been a relevant name in queer(-adjacent) spheres (and occasionally beyond) for over a decade, even going all the way back to the early 2010s when he was still predominantly a Youtuber. Lil Nas X had the bigger peaks with Old Town Road and Montero, but he lacks Troye's celebrity persona and his slowly but steadily established fanbase.

That's not really true

Lil Nas X has the bigger numbers music-career wise. But he always needs a hit paired with a publicity stunt to remain relevant. Troye may be more of a 'flop', but he's a respected 'flop'

Troye has been slowly curating his fanbase and has never been that big but his fans are pretty loyal. Also, I feel his music, generally speaking is a lot better than Nas' and he hasn't tended to rely on controversy for commercial success.

why would that matter tho? there are a lot of people who don't know who Billie Eilish is and before 2023, most of my country didn't have a clue of a Taylor Swift was. this is just how it is these days, a lot of niches with few exceptions

he's still relevant, rich and successful as ***

Considering pop culture is whiter than ever (from actors to singers to influencers), who's surprised?

It's ironic that the new generation was known for being "too woke" and "too demanding" regarding representation, but all they listen is to Sabrina Carpenter, Gracie Abrams and Chappell Roan, and they lust after Timothée Chalamet, Jacob Elordi and Austin Butler.

There's no room for diversity. It sounds crazy, but just take a closer look.
