Europe Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Cabello, on the online reaction to C,XOXO: "I said something like 'elements of hyperpop' [somewhere]," she explains. "I hate that I said that, because people ran with this thing before the album was even out." She loves Charli — "She's one of my favorite artists, you know?" — but there's more to the album. "'Twentysomethings' is literally a guitar song about being broken up with in New York. I can tell that people saying this weren't even listening to the music." She shrugs and sighs. "I don't want to sound like I'm a bitter sailor. I think I was on the internet too much, and I think that really hurt me. And then I got off the internet." "This was a hard album cycle for me. It was really challenging from an audience point of view. I wrote this whole album, and people are questioning my authenticity. It's kind of like a trippy thing. Like, this came from my gut." "No matter how much you say, I feel like some people are committed to misunderstanding you," she says. "I kind of made my peace with that. I'm just like, 'OK, your loss. Your loss!'" Quote On releasing a polarizing record: "My favorite albums are kind of polarizing. Not all people understand it, but the people that love it? Really love it. Even when I felt misunderstood, it felt like people were more passionate about my music than they have been in a while. And that's cool. I feel like that's what my favorite artist is." https://www.nylon.com/entertainment/camila-cabello-cxoxo-interview-miami-june-gloom 1 3

Triton Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Who is the stupid executive that said "yeah, let's give this girl a whole record deal and multiple marketing campaigns, we'll surely make money off this"… 2 1

Iceland Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Why this tumblr blogger loves to play the victim card? 1 5

I'm glad she's speaking on it and a few publications put her on their year end lists because the album is extremely underrated Edited December 2, 2024 by Bussea 9
BionicWooHoo Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Watch her fall off the deep end and become a right-wing grifter like MIA
magazine Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 she would know a lot about online discourse she can't be for real- 1
nostalgic Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Now imagine these visuals for a dark pop album the short bob cut look is really good on her. 2

"'Twentysomethings' is literally a guitar song about being broken up with in New York. I can tell that people saying this weren't even listening to the music." Camila has been in the industry for more than a decade. There's no way she's actually this stupid People obviously form their perception of an album based on the rollout (unless you surprise-release which Camila is too deep in the khia asylum to pull off). So if you do a full image overhaul, spend 2 months teasing a hyperpop song on socials, then drop its as your lead single with a left-field video, release teasers with glitchy snippets and Y2K aesthetics, do interviews about your new quirky direction, reveal an album cover and promotional visuals that are designed to look abrasive and off kilter, people will take note. You cannot expect them to judge based on that one filler ballad that has guitars on it. They thought you were trying to make a hyperpop album because everything you did purposely pointed to that. Accept it was a misfire (and that you're not and never will be that girl) and move on 13 3
Rev8 Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Still dont understand why she is receiving so much hate 1 1 1
Bloodflowers. Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Twentysomethings should've been her lead single, her best song in her whole discography. The rest of the album was... meh
TYMPS Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 LOL sis your lead single...LEAD, as in the very first taste of "your" work, sounded like another girl's track/tip Aint nobody heard the album to be disappointed in it You even had to call up the flavor of the week rapper to hop on the lead and it did NADA You even had to call up a washed up post Not Like Us Aubrey to hop on TWO album tracks and, alas, did NADA That must of hurt having to cop black culture so hard and still failing across the board I'm not surprised this racist-in-recovery is STILL playing the victim like we are a bunch of dummies 3

Minto Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 the vitriol she has on here always baffles me….it's not even like the tumblr fiasco is a good excuse when you all hate normani too.
BlahBlahBlah Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 I think that while this album was certainly abrasive and a huge genre shift for her, it really will pay off in the end because she is being taken more seriously by critics and has expanded her fanbase to more niche areas of pop music. I hadn't checked up on her stuff since like 2019, and this album blew me away, it's incredibly fun. It will be interesting to see where she goes next.

OT: Sorry Cami, but you kinda invite the vitriol a bit by running your mouth instead of just letting the music do the talking.
SoldierofLove Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Interesting timing for promo. Looks like someone got wind that they're nominated for Album of the Year ATRL Grammy. 1
