Dante Silva Posted December 1 Posted December 1 (edited) I go home to my family, lounge around in woolly sweaters, and bask in the warmth of a well-heated home. We have family arguments and plunder Netflix for content before I dress like a 1920s gentleman to visit the local church with my sister, where we welcome Christmas Day with mince pies, mulled wine and traditional hymns. I also indulge in too much of my mother's fabulous cooking, the highlight of which is a traditional two-course Christmas Day meal. Afterwards, I continue to relax in the warmth for a further week, feeling sleepy from a combination of heat and too much food. Finally, I sit around the TV with my family on New Year's Eve to ring in the new year while enjoying shortbread and fancy lemonade. Edited December 1 by Dante Silva 2
constantinople Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Usually everybody spend christmas with their family & friends. Here our christmas dinner happens during the night of December 24th. About the food, it depends from state to state/region to region. As someone who lives in Minas Gerais we usually have feijão tropeiro, vinaigrette, rice, roast turkey and Churrasco. We drink soda, wine, juices, beer and even champagne/cider. For dessert, the most common is Pavê. Brazil is a culturally roman catholic country so it's also common Misa de Gallo, the christmas midnight mass. It's even broadcasted on TV. 1
Hollywood. Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Business as usual here. We gather for Christmas and that's it. Stopped exchanging gifts a few years ago. My birthday is also in December, but thanks to certain holiday it always gets overshadowed and can never plan anything. (When I was younger my parents threw Birthday/Christmas parties which ended up being a Christmas party, with "Oh right, here's a cake." at the end.) 1
Alldeezy Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Eat food and open gifts, thats just about it since I don't have a family anymore so its just me and mum pigging out on food NOT listening to Christmas music, I think this year i might put on Christmas Stray kid songs but my mother sorta hates kpop so idk if she'll let me 1
Illyboy Posted December 2 Posted December 2 (edited) Eat the seasonal desserts (polvorones/mantecados, turrón, mazapán, etc.) On NYE we do the national tradition of eating 12 grapes the last 12 seconds of the year (it's supposed to bring good luck tho we don't get worked up on it if we don't manage to eat them on time bc it's no big really) and then at January 6 (epiphany) we eat roscón de reyes with hot chocolate (also open gifts that morning but since we're grown-ups now not really anymore lol) Oh and also "special" dinner all together (just the closest family though) at December 24th and NYE I forgot to write that down. For the past 20-25 years I guess Papá Noel (Santa Claus) has grown in popularity here in Spain but I wouldn't say it has displaced the local equivalent Los Reyes Magos (p. much the same thing except it's more religious (celebrated on Epiphany) + it's three men with camels instead of Santa with reindeer), personally I preffer LRM to Santa (I view it as an "imported" custom that isn't really authentic to our culture just like halloween but I respect people who practice it) Edited December 2 by Illyboy image links (copied constantinople's idea lol) 2
Daddy Posted December 2 Posted December 2 I'm miserable and cold, then I take the train to my parents place the day before Christmas, be miserable "at home" until the 27th. After that I take the train back to Berlin and continue to be miserable, just at work. Those days I usually look forward for NYE to be over with cause everyone is extra loud and trashy and annoying that night.
