ericcartman Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Both of these ladies are streaming queens in the 2020s having been in the game over a decade and getting bigger and bigger. Who has been more influential?
Jay07 Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Lana. Lorde, Billie and tons of alternative girls owe their careers to her. 4 1 1
Guilherme Make Love Posted November 30 Posted November 30 One of them clearly impacted the art of the other, which makes only one answer being realistic. Lana. 7 1
Klein Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Taylor. In Billboard's own words: "Instead of coming up and thriving naturally within the bounds of what we understand pop to be then and now, she rewrote the genre in her own image and, in doing so, charted a new course for crossover success that countless other confessional singer-songwriters like Olivia Rodrigo, Phoebe Bridgers, Gracie Abrams have since benefitted from." 2 2 4 5

Yeah that's why Taylor ripped off Lana several times in her career 1 1 9
popmusicisdead Posted November 30 Posted November 30 of of these girls directly influenced the other so thread over 2 1
Devin Posted November 30 Posted November 30 lana and its not even close. lana is authentic in her artistry. her songwriting tastefully done u can listen to one song and easily sucked into the next. she connects to people on several topics in her music. lana's vocals is very poised and rich. taylor however … doesnt have that same effect on people (outside young white girls). taylor is lyrically obsessed with destroying men and her vocals are grating to the avg listener. her overall artistry is bland which is why she clings onto big productions to overshadow the lack of talent. not to mention taylor tried copying lana's blueprint several times and failed. 8 1 3
Bartender Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Lana, I love Taylor but even her career has been influenced by Lana 1

And tons of country, singer-songwriter and pop girls owe in good parts their careers to Taylor, yet you don't seem to care about that? Not sure why in 2024 we're still trying to ignore the obvious influence she's had and continues to have on the newer crop of artists, some of which are dominating the charts right now (Olivia, Sabrina, Gracie...). 4

Because you personally doesn't like their music? How exactly does that negate the impact she's had? Y'all are just not serious 3 1
Trent W Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Taylor is completely and undeniably influenced by Lana Lana is also the most influential artist since her debut No one comes close after her debut in terms of influence and impact 7 2

enchanted0 Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Taylor obviously. "Taylor's own words" lmao I mean Taylor wouldn't call herself the most influential artist of her generation.

OT: I understand that Taylor Swift's immense popularity makes this comparison somewhat unfair, but how many recent breakout stars and up-and-coming artists have been influenced by Taylor? While Lana Del Rey may have influenced Taylor herself and other artists as well, can she truly be considered more influential than Taylor, given what Taylor has done for the whole industry and how many kids she inspired to take up a guitar and write songs themselves? The objective take would be that she's influenced those artists. The subjective take would be to undermine said influence because it's not your type of music. Hope that helps!
