Space Cowboy Posted November 30 Posted November 30 I have always considered anyone with African features (such as dark skin, afro textured hair, etc…) to be Black, regardless of their birthplace. However, I've noticed that some Black Americans believe that the term "Black" should refer exclusively to them. Some examples: What are your thoughts on this?
XVIIII Posted November 30 Posted November 30 American defaultism isn't limited to just white Americans. Ignorant take. 4
getBusy Posted November 30 Posted November 30 stupid take Oppression doesn't care about the passport you hold 3 1
The7thStranger Posted November 30 Posted November 30 "Black" is not a construct that exists solely in North America, nor does it only exist in the English language. So, no "black/Black" does not only refer to African-Americans. 5
Digitalism Posted November 30 Posted November 30 (edited) I think a lot of those people are just baiting to get clicks The thing is some people, mostly teens, may think that it's a real discussion. It's the problem of the era of disinformation Edited November 30 by Digitalism 3
Devin Posted November 30 Posted November 30 in my opinion: black vs poc vs african decent. i seen one too many occasions of poc & africans think they aren't black or do not align themselves to our culture. whereas afro-latino and other mixed races do identify as black. this is a US-centric take i cant speak for outside here.
Namie-Knowles Posted November 30 Posted November 30 (edited) The Europeans lying about not having racism or understanding race really got to OP. The brainwash, listen here if you're of African descent in Ireland, US, Germany, Russia, Korea, Japan, or whatever they'll think you're Black. That's like saying you can only be called Asian if you live in America lmao Edited November 30 by Namie-Knowles 3

Taylena Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Why do Americans, regardless of race, often see themselves as the center of the world? The sense of entitlement is crazy. 2 1
Ricardo1993 Posted November 30 Posted November 30 I know a guy who is Afro-Italian. Is he not black just because he, his parents and grandparents were all born in Italy?
blown away Posted November 30 Posted November 30 What on earth? One of the dumbest takes I've ever heard. I have no words.

It's easier for us to see these discussions constantly and some people fall for it. In the real world this is not a thing. But I imagine a lot of people that spend too much time on the internet feel lonely and they feel they belong to some kind of a community by participating. 1

The sense of entitlement is crazy. I think Americans in general are too hyper-focused on how people choose to identify as. Most hispanic people identify with their heritage and yet americans who are not hispanic constantly want to box them in as either white, black, indigenous or mixed. 1
Illyboy Posted November 30 Posted November 30 No, that's stupid. What do we call black people from Latin America, Africa or Asia then??? bruh America is not the world.
goldenrainbow222 Posted November 30 Posted November 30 This concept is really for Americans. Over the last decade or so, I've noticed an increase in black people coming from African countries who do not see themselves as the same to the black people who have always lived in America because they are descendants of slaves. African American=someone whose family is from Africa and they're first or second generation American. Black American=someone who has always been in America and lineage is traced to slavery. 1 1
glitch Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Twitter users continue to show off their single digit IQs
