Moonlight Nation Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Oh... you've gotta be kidding me that "As It Was" ended up as the most acclaimed song of 2022. Anything off "RENAISSANCE" or "Dawn FM" would have been more respectable. Steve Lacy's "Bad Habit", Zach Bryan's "Something In The Orange", Joji's "Glimpse Of Us", something off Bad Bunny's "Un Verano Sin Ti" or ROSALIA's "MOTOMAMI" Had these institutions actually waited until the end of the year to make those lists, something off SZA's "SOS" would have been great too. Just to name a few. It seriously stands out like an ugly sore thumb among an otherwise remarkably strong and inspired selection of songs. I have nothing against Harry Styles himself, and could see fair arguments for "Sign Of The Times" and "Adore You" to be considered among the best of their respective years. But I'll never understand what people see in this dirge. Derivative, completely lacking in energy or passion, and painfully corporate. I despise the defeatist sentiment too. OT: It seems like the battle for 2024's most acclaimed song will be between Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us" and Charli XCX's "Girl, so confusing remix with lorde" based on these early lists, though I definitely wouldn't mind a "Good Luck, Babe!" upset Overall, I really hope SZA's "Saturn" doesn't get forgotten. And while I don't think "COWBOY CARTER" will be as widely represented on Year-End lists compared to previous Beyoncé releases, "16 CARRIAGES", "DAUGHTER", and "YA YA" deserve their flowers. 4
