Read the damn article, it's thanks to the massive and IMPACTFUL concert that was held FOR Madonna herself, it was such a SUCCESS that it will become a yearly event, again, thanks to MADONNA.

imagine a free concert. People from all over the country (even the world) goes to Copacabana and in return Rio get millions in tourist revenue. Madonna is legendary for a list of reasons, including being the first to do a free concert in Copacabana, but it's not because of her that Gaga is coming, it's because of money. Revenue.

You're just being obtuse. Of course Madonna's concert served as a big post card to make international popstars receptive of the idea. Her own team rejected it at first because of many reasons, like logistics and fears about security.

 

Free concerts at the beach happens on the regular but something of the magnitude of Madonnas is rare. Paes wants BIG stars to bring BIG revenue, he was talking about U2 or Beyoncé alongside Gaga. He needed to convince them that the city can handle it. It's not an Alok, or Anitta or a Lenny Kravitz show that made this possible, it was Madonna, at 65 years old. Deal with it.
