YoungDreamer Posted November 28 Posted November 28 Lady Gaga is the "music superstar" with whom Rio de Janeiro's City Hall signed an agreement yesterday to hold a mega-concert on Copacabana Beach in May 2025, following the format of Madonna's show six months ago. The agreement, referred to in English as an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement), ensures confidentiality during the final negotiation stages for Gaga's performance. The document, mentioned in an interview yesterday by Mayor Eduardo Paes, also sets December 15 as the deadline for finalizing the deal. Currently, the show is at the same stage Madonna's was in March this year, when it was revealed—prior to an official announcement—that she would perform in Copacabana. Bonus Track, the same production company behind Madonna's event, is once again partnering with Paes' administration to make it happen. For Lady Gaga, this mega-concert is an opportunity to redeem herself with her Brazilian fans. Her only visit to the country was in 2012, when she performed in Rio, São Paulo, and Porto Alegre. Five years later, she canceled her Rock in Rio 2017 performance on the scheduled day, with fans already lining up at the venue. Gaga, who suffers with lupus and fibromyalgia, said she was "devastated" at the time—a sentiment that birthed memes like "Brazil, I'm Devastated" and "Ela não vem mais" ("She's not coming anymore"). Last October, Gaga told Fantástico on TV Globo that she "couldn't wait" to return to Brazil. In an interview with O Globo yesterday, without naming Lady Gaga, Paes stated that the show with a "music superstar" is "well underway" and promised to announce it in January. He revealed that in the early hours of Wednesday morning, he had signed a memorandum of understanding on behalf of the city. The event is part of Celebration May, an annual initiative the mayor aims to establish, featuring international (and free) concerts on Copacabana Beach during the "first half of the month." Madonna performed on May 4 during the extended Labor Day holiday weekend. Before advancing negotiations with the singer of "Bad Romance" and "Shallow," there were backstage discussions about inviting U2 or Beyoncé to perform in Rio under the same model. However, Lady Gaga emerged as the most viable and promising option. This concert could draw the largest crowd of Gaga's career, which has been building momentum since her debut album The Fame in 2008. Madonna set a record with 1.6 million attendees, while Gaga's largest audience so far was about 80,000 in Paris in 2022. Having focused primarily on her acting career over the past two years—she recently starred in Joker 2—Lady Gaga is now preparing to release her seventh album, set for February. Known for her energetic and eccentric performances as well as her iconic costumes, she typically embarks on tours following her album releases. She is also set to perform at Coachella in California in April. https://oglobo.globo.com/blogs/lauro-jardim/post/2024/11/lady-gaga-na-praia-de-copacabana-cantora-e-a-grande-estrela-do-megashow-que-o-rio-planeja-para-maio.ghtml?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=O Globo 9 1

I'm the last to talk down Madonna's pioneering qualities, and Gaga has for sure benifited from it plenty but she wasn't the first artist to play Copacobana Beach in this context. 2

Of course she isn't however PLEASE name a pop act or any artist in recent years that made it the global pop phenomena that it was when Madonna headlined it this year. Madonna's concert was a huge success and I'm sure other artists will want to follow considering how well organized and how much money the concert brought to everyone involved. I was there and I loved it, I'll probably go see Gaga's too because not only the concert was amazing but the whole vibe of the city during that weekend was something I've never experienced before 6 1
