And also the film and controversies overshadowed the music

 

And the cherry on top is that with so much social justice fatigue in the GP not many people want to go back to an album dedicated to that

 

Honestly being outstremed by Artpop is really bad

The album doesn't work as well without the film. Musically, it is weaker and only a mid-tier Bey album. Had it not had the controversies and film it probably wouldn't have done that well.

It aged poorly for me. The film is fantastic, and the music works well in the context of the film, but it has probably dropped to my third least favorite Beyonce album. I just never have desire to revisit it. Even my best friend who would die for Beyonce is no longer a fan of it. But it's still an important piece of her artistic journey.
