TIME's Top 100 Photos of 2024

Every year the TIME photo department sits down to curate the strongest images that crossed our path over the previous 12 months.

What follows is our attempt to string together that tension and bring it to the eyes of our readers. We hope it captures not only the events that defined the world over the last months, but also why, on the cusp of an uncertain new year, that world feels the way it does.

 

Warning: The vast majority of the 100 photos chosen are of political nature, depict wars or other terrors, natural disasters, tragedies or are other types of potentially upsetting graphic images.

 

But given the forum we're all in, I wanted to specifically highlight the pop culture/entertainment-related or other types of "light hearted" photos picked by TIME Magazine among their 100 Top Photos of 2024:

I was expecting to see the crotch of that French athlete and the crying face of the Italian boxer from the Olympics since they circulated way more than most of these pictures.

That Djokovic match was such an impressive comeback win at his age. He even withdrew due to injury after that match.
