ericcartman Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Fanbases have been going at it for years arguing who is bigger. With the release of Billboards list of pop stars this century, did they just settle the pop star hierarchy? Can all fan bases come together and unite and agree on this list? 1. Beyonce 2. Taylor 3. Rihanna 4. Lady Gaga 5 Britney All of these ladies have accomplished so much. Some just a bit more than others, hence the list. It's no shade to be below someone else. The battle is over!
SinnerCity Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago That's a group of artists I'm happy with, the order is subjective since they cannot measure cultural impact and to say that Bey has driven the same amount of cultural attention that Britney, Gaga and Taylor drove at some point during their careers would be incorrect, however, Bey has been breaking records for longer than Gaga and Britney for instance so it really depends on how you interpret the metrics. Having said that, they all are living legends for a reason, all in their own lane, with their own accolades and impact. All have influenced each other mutually and pop culture certainly wouldn't be the same without any of them. 6
FailSafe Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) The power that those artists have whew Now those are officially THEE MPGs Edited 4 hours ago by FailSafe
OrbitNumber1 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I think so. Even the complaints I saw are very minor like "Britney should be on top 5 instead of #6" (like, really? What difference would that make?)
DevilsRollTheDice Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) This is a subjective list based on the opinions of a specific editorial staff. This specific article also isn't about success or stats. You specifically said, "who is bigger" in the OP and Taylor is CLEARLY number 1 in that regard. Even Billboard called her, "the most famous woman in the world" in their article for this project. The only thing that's settled is that this editorial staff picked Beyonce for a list made without criteria or a rubric and that isn't intended to be a measure of success. More similar to something like a Grammy or award. And Beyonce is deserving! But that's completely different than what you're implying. Edited 4 hours ago by DevilsRollTheDice 2
PaloSanto Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago The list rollout was messy as hell but it's a decent list. A case for each of them to be #1 can be argued and that alone is proof that that is undoubtly the top 5. It's strange to me though that they called it the 21st century list and included Brit and Bey even though they debuted in the 90s and completely discarded Madonna and Mariah even though they had massive eras in the 00s. Madonna held the recors for the biggest tour for 14 years, number one singles and albums, just had the biggest solo show in history in may. Mariah had blockbuster success too so the criteria is strange. But it's whatever, the list is fine and Im glad Taylor is #2 cause Im not strong enough to read through the thinkpieces if she had ben crowned ngl and this is coming from a swiftie hag
Europe Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Since Madonna or Taylor is not #1, the list is invalid. They are the only ones who qualify. And if they want to be "21st century only" then where is Lana? Because she had far more impact & influence than everyone in that top 5, besides Taylor. 1 1 1
ACaseOfBlues Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Let's be honest, it's going to cause MORE stan wars, not less.
GreatestLoveofAll Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago this is only gonna make the stan wars worse. 2025 is gonna be a rage for pop stan wars. 1
Strawberry Bubble Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Maybe in the U.S., but Beyoncé hasn't been popular in my country since Single Ladies. I don't think this reflects a general hierarchy we can all agree on 3
makeawish Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago yes, i'm sure that no one will disagree about pop music here ever again 9
Robyn. Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago It's kind of crazy how Britney is top 5, considering her two biggest albums were released before the 21st century started. 3

Contessa Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago the concept of an artist being "big" is a very complex and subjective measure that there is no way that everyone would agree on which holds more weight regarding cultural impact (subjective), sales (objective), influence (subjective), and the list goes on...

So her 2 biggest eras (2 of the biggest/impactful eras overall), weren't included for her?! crazy to think where she would rank with them (even tho she is underrated when put in lists like these (which is probably a fault of her pr team))
