Feeling extreme guilt for calling in sick

Recommended Posts

I used to feel bad too, but then I got laid off from my last job and realized at the end of the day these capitalist cronies are not loyal to you at all, so take that sick day

taking two days off when you are actually sick is nothing, I wouldn't worry about it

I've worked with people in the past who would call off at least once every two-three weeks and it would take months before the company would finally let them go/reduce hours. (Working with people like this is a nightmare I have to say) I think you are fine lol

You're such a good person

I can't relate lol

They literally wouldn't care if you died, take your sick days.

I call in twice a month and I never get sick

Do what you want

Not you feeling guilty when you're actually sick

I rarely get sick so I feel guilty when I don't feel like working and use sick hours

From someone who used to feel the same, genuinely don't. Work places will go on whether you're there or not. If you're sick, you're sick. Never push yourself into being more sick for work, it's neeeeever appreciated.

If I was an employer I would prefer that you call sick than come to work and contaminate other workers so don't feel bad and take care of yourself

Always found it crazy that we are conditioned to feel guilty about prioritizing our health over a job.

i worked for a company one that required sick notes if you called in sick more than one day in a row.

I got kicked off the health / safety committee for trying to fight their sick policy, saying it encouraged people to show up sick, thus passing along virus's through the team and ultimately harming their health.

Another job I had said you can leave early if you're "still" feeling sick. (This one handled food btw).

No job is worth sacrificing your health for.

Is it only Americans that get scared to call off sick? Asking for a friend.

gurlie, i call out of work just because i dont have any clean laundry lol

of course i dont tell them that, i just say that "something came up and i cant make it to work in time"

but also, if youre sick, if you go to wirk sick, youre liable to get your coworkers sick too, so youd be doing the job a favour.

You're sick, what else are you supposed to do? Better take a sick day than be in a **** mood and do lower effort than expected at work (with everyone noticing).

what happens at work when ur not there, ain't got nothing to do with you bb

if you are lucky enough to live in a place/work for a company that has paid sick days, don't be afraid to use them. your health is important and that's what sick days are for. i get that you may feel pressured to not take them but you need to acknowledge those feelings and then think about where they come from and why they're not helpful.

30 years from now you probably won't remember taking those sick days but you will have to deal with the consequences of your health problems if you don't take care of yourself

I used to feel the same until they gave me no increase despite 10% company profits.

Just chill

I called in sick yesterday. I faked having a bad neck sprain. I work in HR.  :ryan3:

Employees are entitled to 22 local & 15 sick leaves yearly here which are paid leaves. Sure, you could keep the SL for when you're really sick, but you can also once in while use them when you don't feel like going to work.

The company won't care if you die tomorrow. We're all replaceable. Don't feel bad.

If you're sick you're sick…. like

It's not like you're faking, you're genuinely not well enough, so what's the issue? :rip:

If you're feeling so guilty about it, then take some pain meds and just clock in regardless of not being well enough.

Listen... my 'sick' days are my vacation days too okayyyyy.

The job won't care if you die tomorrow... so use up what you can... take as much as they'll allow you to, bc we are all replaceable within a few weeks at any job.

Girl **** that job

This.

I used to work for Microsoft for a few years and busted my tail only to get laid off after the pandemic. These companies don't care, take care of yourself. Doesn't matter if it's a few days or a week off, they'll be okay.

LOL OP you sound so pathetic. Employers are ruthless plunderers and will strip you to the bone without bliking twice.

Do yourself a favor and grow a spine coz you will have lots of stress and exploitation at work with that attitude of yours.

Like, I never feel bad about calling in sick because I know so many people who take the piss with it. I'm always telling my team to take sick days, enough martyrdom

This. The times I have toughed it out and gone back to work early while sick have always backfired. Nobody appreciates it or sees it as commendable.

Take your sick time and use it to rest and recover.

Work will always replace us - if you feel sick to work, don't feel guilty for prioritizing self care over the company's profits

Guilt just shows that you do care about work and that's healthy, but not at the cost of compromising your own needs and taking rest for yourself
