Lover Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Glastonbury fans rage over 'painful' first act announcement claiming the 60s legend is the 'final nail' in the festival's coffin ruthless 7

no_better Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Yeah Rod Stewart meh whatever but it's not like there are not other stages and 1000000 things to do, are these people buying Glastonbury tickets to stand still in front of Pyramid stage for 3 days? 4
Gelato Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 they have a point. when filling that slot you need an older artist whose discography is still relevant to young people, like kylie and dolly in the past. not just someone who had a lot of success several decades ago. girls aloud would've been a far better choice. 1 1 1 4
Helix Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 making articles about a few tweets with less than 10 likes should be just banned. That's the opinion of nobody 6
wigglytuffer Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Hate to be THAT guy but the Sunday Legend slot is not a headliner, it's the Sunday Legend slot. It's on at 4pm on the final day when you're winding down after being on the farm since Wednesday. It's always been filled with people from yesteryear. Dolly, Shania, Lionel Richie, Diana Ross, Rod Stewart definitely fits that and if not, there's about 95 million other stages to go to and enjoy They're already going more commercial with their Friday headliner being a pop girl (Billie, Dua) so i think we can let the oldies have this one idk 🤷🏼♂️ Also the Gen-Z kids will get down and dirty to "Do ya think I'm sexy" after the TikTok trend 13

Quote Stewart is among the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 120 million records worldwide. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_Stewart
Malkuth Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Aren't there like 100 artists performing? And multiple at any given moment? I feel like it doesn't really matter if he performs there. You're never going to be a fan of all the artists at Glastonbury and you just watch someone else if an act you don't like is on.
Daddy Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 I would be mad too if that would happen to me
SinnerCity Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 The legend slot is for the old people, what are they talking about, he's definitely a good fit
Uncatena Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 this is SUCH a non-issue considering what the legend slot is. their line-up is ALWAYS good. 1
EndofASadMovie Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Sounds like those few people are not just his fans. Rod Stewart classics are still relevant today
Buffy Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Rod Stewart is a legend. What a bunch of buffoons
l3disko Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Here I was expecting the first act announcement to be Sabrina Carpenter or Ice Spice. Rod Stewart is an old respected legend. He is farrrrrrrrrrr from the potential 'final nail'.

That's what the entire Sunday 5pm slot is for, older performers. Just look at that slots history this century. 2000 - Willie Nelson 2002 - James Brown 2003 - Issac Hayes 2005 - Brian Wilson 2007 - Shirley Bassey 2008 - Neil Diamond 2009 - Tom Jones 2010 - Ray Davies 2011 - Paul Simon 2013 - Kenny Rogers 2014 - Dolly Parton 2015 - Lionel Richie 2016 - Electric Light Orchestra 2017 - Barry Gibb 2019 - Kylie 2022 - Diana Ross 2023 - Cat Stevens 2024 - Shania Twain And Dolly and Kylie aren't really the best examples since the former was more a celebrity than a musician in stature (the 2014 fest was my first one at 16 years old when she played, and most uk folks under 25 only knew her as Hannah Montana's aunt and not any of her own music, that obviously changed afterwards since her catalogue got a humungous boast) and in 2019, the latter wasn't relevant to any heterosexual under 30 in best part of a decade,
Jukebox Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Yeah it's not a headlining slot it's just the legend slot that they do every year. Rod Stewart is a massive name for that, the people that go for the legend slot will be going crazy for him and the people who stumble in out of curiosity will end up singing along to songs they didn't even know were his.
Dante Silva Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 I'm a little shocked. His fanbase is restricted to boomers.
Abracadabra Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 He's not headlining Are these people dumb? He's playing the legends slot, which makes sense tbh. Although Cher would have been a more gag worthy choice
