Seems like everyone has to learn the hard way, or maybe most people really are just stupid and gullible, we're cooked either way. :coffee2:

I am Romanian and it’s crazy what is happening right now. This candidate came on top as a surprise, especially because he was not promoted by the media and he was not doing well in the polls. He bought a lot of bots on tiktok which fooled the people into voting for him. But I think an investigation or something will follow because this is a nightmare.

I am hoping that the candidate I voted for goes into the second round of the presidential vote, though I am not sure she is strong enough to win against this flop.

Romania needs to elect a politician that's gonna bring them back to Eurovision, not to bring them backwards to 1941

So are his votes legit or is it speculated that he somehow rigged the results? Bots or not, if ppl went out and voted for him, I don't see how his qualification can get annulled. Unfortunately.

I think this just shows that legacy mainstream media is on its last legs. Social media is the new king based on how he is performing

That's exactly how Milei won in my country, and it is indeed a nightmare. Be strong Romania, I hope he doesn't win.

Tiktok/social media influencing in favour of rightwing politics?

I'm not saying it's solely because of it. But it's been always at the scenes of the crimes now.

I have no words. Tik tok is literally ruining societies, media illiteracy is at a scarily all-time high. Everywhere.

yeah, this is wild.

with how so many countries are choosing fascist, nationalist, militarist leaders at an alarming rate, I'm extremely worried for the future of our planet and species. feels like all the progress made in the last 50-60 years is about to be/already being erased by those in power.

yeah, this is so so concerning. I still don't have a TikTok account because it seems like it's intentionally designed to cater to people's worst instincts and keep them scrolling. one slip into the incel/manosphere cesspool and it's over for the uneducated men. for women, it seems to be the trad wife/chaste content setting us back.

can we go back to TikTok being the app for whipped coffee, Addison Rae dancing in public, and viral Doja Cat bops? those were better days.

not to be that friend who connects everything to everything, but the pandemic literally opened the floodgates WIDE for this new era of nazism that will completely take over in the next few years. Europe is cooked.

I'm romanian and I am shocked. Elena Lasconi needs to win and sadly it seems she will lose.

Hopefully, people wake up and vote someone else in round 2.

It really is scary what's been happening over the past few years across Europe.

Alot of European countries are over UE and Nato and the hold USA holds over them, they are tired of living on the edge with money every single day, that's what I hear alot of people in Romania say even young ones.

Alot of people say that we help Ukraine and give them more than we give us and people started to want to stop to help Ukraine.

This is a **** show. We are ******.

People of Romania are called Romanians.

Romani means a different thing.

I have a friend that is exactly like this. He always sends us the stupidest, missinformed things from tik tok (which i have to try to watch in browser as I don't use it either). He's a foreigner living here so he couldn't vote and when we talked about this in the morning I sent him a (not lengthy) article talking about the situation. He could not take anything from it and kept asking stupid questions which were already answered in there and making absurd affirmations. He literally won't take information in unless it's in the form of a 20-sec clickbait tik tok video.

I am stupefied.

TikTok, WhatsApp, X/Twitter, Threads, Instagram, Facebook groups, VK and Telegram are all swamped with misinformation from Russian bot farms to turn elections to the right and/or pro Putin. The EU needs to regulate this asap!

My boyfriend is romanian and literally his whole family and friends voted for him, so it seems like the results are legitimate :rip: It's so weird tho cause everything I read about this guy is a nightmare yet all romanian people I talked to this morning perceive him as moderate and smart. What is going on in these peoples heads :deadbanana4:

There's nothing unexpected about this. This is happening everywhere.

Some of you need to stop using social media 24/7 and understand things have changed. What some of you think is common in society is probably 3% of population.

What is unexpected is the candidate who won. He was not predicted above like the 4th place in any poll. We have another far-right candidate who was predicted to go in the second voting round, and who is also in the parliament already, but ended up fourth.

This man was unknown to most of us who don’t stay on TikTok 24/7.
