NoOneDiesFromLove Posted November 24 Posted November 24 What about the thousands of Americans invading Mexico over the past few years omg
Hollywood. Posted November 24 Posted November 24 I can't speak to the US, but in Canada you can get in trouble if you work for a Canadian company remotely from another county. Granted many retired people already have homes or have permanently moved to countries with lower costs of living. We call them "snow birds" as majority flock to southern or warmer climates for the winter. 1
Cain Posted November 24 Posted November 24 Some people actually do! Me personally, I have my life, my friends, my family here and live in a very international city with lots of international artists coming here to tour, parties to go to, exhibitions, events and happenings Living somewhere is about way more than just having a house (for me), it's all the activities and network that a city brings with it as well
Capris Groove Posted November 24 Posted November 24 People underestimate the difficulty of moving. It's not just getting the practical things sorted out, it's a huge shock to the nervous system to change environments and it often takes a while to show up once you've already moved. We still have the brain of a tribal mammal and we really like familiarity. 1

While it doesn't go far in Germany, you can get by on it in many other countries. 5k in Germany is upper class, wtf are you talking about "doesn't go far"

They don't even need to leave their country to ruin things tbh. Didn't regional video game prices go up because gringos were buying games with vpn in Argentina because it was cheaper?

Jotham Posted November 25 Posted November 25 It's happening already in a lot of developing countries. This video provides a good example of its effects on Mexico:
AvadaKedavra Posted November 25 Posted November 25 (edited) I'm in Colombia, and we have tons of expats movin here. It's actually becoming a big problem because cities like Medellín are now unaffordable due to skyrocketing rents and cost of living. Everything is getting ten times more expensive. Locals aren't happy because the city is turning into a hub for outsiders only, forcing residents-locals to move away. There's also a significant rise in issues like sex work and drug trade targeting expats, making things messier here. While people tend to blame immigrants, I feel the real fault lies with governments allowing costs to spiral out of control. It should be illegal for prices of everything to increase this much. This is worldwide. Locals should be protected from this. I always try to be nice to expats and to help them here. I dont like when people treat inmigrants bad....i love multiculturality but yes in the last years they been gettin more and more unpopular....looks like people are very anti-inmigration today worlwide. I remember an article of how Barcelona is pushing away their tourists.... That said, we do have a lot of expats. Sometimes, I feel bad for them because they're sold the dream of a peaceful life here. Living in the third world can be real good if you have good money—laid-back, less stressful than the U.S., with amazing weather, fruits, food, fun, no seasons, and kindness. But the crime rate is a serious downside and the insurgent groups takin over is a concern too. It's so unsafe here; I can't even take my phone or anything valuable outside because thieves are everywhere. Everytime i go out there's always this fear of finding dangerous people outisde and our countries are also vulnerable to fall to dictatorships easily. So yep livin here is the best and the worst thing Edited November 25 by AvadaKedavra 1

Like, a year's worth of work in the US making 60k could get you a sick house, a sweet car, and still have money left over. Why don't more people just move there? I mean, life in a third-world country isn't always easy. But even there, there's always a plaftorm for the rich folk have their own little world, where they significantly stick out from the average people. They do and it's a problem. Mexico City is overrun with American so-called expats.
shimind Posted November 25 Posted November 25 What's the incentive? Why would they go from a smooth, efficient life to a life full of trouble
katara Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Girl they do in masses and then they gentrify the area they move to and drive up the prices so the locals can't afford them anymore. It's a big problem in Europe for countries like Portugal, Spain, and cities like Prague.

family.guy123 Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Is the OP serious about the question in the title? The answer is in the question.

You mean the bullshit mentality where Mexican and mostly South American immigrants in America are met with such disdain from Americans and their politicians who compare them to animals and are forced to take backbreaking jobs that no one else will take? The same Americans that are now coming into my country to work remotely and take advantage of our currency and cheaper prices but wouldn't bat an eye when voting for trump's insane anti-immigrant policies? Now if only they realized how hypocritical these stupid arguments like yours sound like. Mexican and South American immigrants aren't met with respect, so why would we have respect with gentrifiers like them? Respect goes both ways, remember that
