Daddy Posted Sunday at 03:15 PM Posted Sunday at 03:15 PM CMM is a low point in Carlys stellar discography, just like for example Royals by Lorde. It's probably still a bigger hit than GLB but I don't know about charts, just a feeling. 1
PYT Posted Sunday at 03:21 PM Posted Sunday at 03:21 PM CMM is catchy but GLB all the way >>>> Bigger hit goes to CMM! 1
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted Sunday at 04:04 PM Posted Sunday at 04:04 PM CMM was way bigger than GLB, that is not even a question. GLB is better, though. GLB is honestly kind of a masterpiece lol very few songs capture the LGBT experience like GLB 3
NoOneDiesFromLove Posted Sunday at 04:07 PM Posted Sunday at 04:07 PM Bigger hit… baby GLB doesn't even come close to CMM's worldwide impact 1 1
EarthJang Posted Sunday at 05:04 PM Posted Sunday at 05:04 PM GLB is the better song, but CMM is by far the bigger song, not even remotely close
Venice B Posted Sunday at 06:08 PM Posted Sunday at 06:08 PM Call Me Maybe is probably the Carly song I like the least
Roberto Posted Sunday at 06:11 PM Posted Sunday at 06:11 PM CMM is bigger (although kinda meh compared with other Carly songs). GLB wins the rest.
Bitter Aging Twink Posted Sunday at 06:25 PM Posted Sunday at 06:25 PM Whew, not you setting up Ms. Roan like that. "Good Luck Babe" is a cheaply-produced cover of Wham's 1980s classic "Last Christmas" with poorly-written alternative lyrics that were corporately-engineered to be TikTok and Instagram fodder for edgy, young white women who claim to be "bisexual" on Twitter, but whose dating history is 99% male, with the exception of a couple girl-on-girl kisses at parties that they only did to appeal to the male gaze. Despite having a label budget of over a million dollars, lazy-ass Chappell refused to shoot a music video for the single, instead choosing to upload a two-dollar-budget lyric video that looks like it was put together by a fifth-grader. The whole campaign was an insult not only to her fans, but also to the general public who had to be subjected to such artistic cynicism. "Call Me Maybe," on the other hand, is a universally-loved, superbly-produced modern classic, consisting of natural instruments (including the absolutely iconic, instantly-recognizable violin riff in the chorus), campy, cleverly-written lyrics about the awkwardness of a budding young love, and an overall feeling of genuineness, as every lyric sounds like it came directly from Carly's heart. On top of that, the music video for "Call Me Maybe" is easily one of the most iconic of the 2010s, with over 1.6 BILLION views. The music video was a cultural reset, as it was one of the first music videos to feature a heterosexual love story, in which the male love interest ended up being gay, subverting straight people's expectations, and forcing them to reckon with the fact that queer people exist, we are literally just the guy/girl next door, and we do NOT need to dress up in silly wigs and put on sassy personas like Chappell in order to be taken seriously. 1 1
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted Sunday at 06:26 PM ATRL Moderator Posted Sunday at 06:26 PM “Call Me Maybe” easily for all. Come on now.
prézli Posted Sunday at 07:21 PM Posted Sunday at 07:21 PM Call Me Maybe is the perfect pop song: catchy, silly, timeless. While the other one is annoying and dated.
JoeAg Posted Sunday at 07:35 PM Posted Sunday at 07:35 PM Call Me Maybe was ginormous, honestly staggeringly huge but yeah Good Luck, Babe! is better and exhibits superior artistry
