I highly doubt a presidential election is the main reason why she moved away from a city she doesn't even work in anymore. 1

OrbitNumber1 Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Ooh, Doctor Who already cast her as The Valeyard, I see.
Infatuation_Junkie Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Stay away from Natalie. Get. A. Job.
Thuggin Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Lowkey I miss when everyone loved Ellen, sorta cringe but wholesome Obama liberalism dominated the cultural zeitgeist, and social media was a lot less toxic than it is today. If I had to psychoanalyze her cancellation, I feel like her message of kindness no longer resonates in this post-2016 Trumpian era where everyone is miserable and lashing out with what little power they feel like they have. 1 1
Shelter Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 It's actually insane how fast she got cancelled.
smartalek22 Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 I KNEW stuff like this was gonna happen, random appearances, it's gonna become so meme-worthy... waiting for some deranged person to make a video whilst she's walking down a street or something or in a supermarket 1

Interesting observation - I think I agree with you overall. Her downfall definitely symbolized a larger cultural shift in what people are looking for out of celebrity figures. People see overly optimistic celebrities now as fake, condescending, and out of touch, especially when they're exposed for being completely different behind the scenes. Celebrities can no longer hide their true selves like they used to even when Ellen peaked. People are more eager to expose celebrities like Ellen for who they really are in an era where the average person feels taken advantage of by life in general. I believe it's a combo of the first Trump presidency, all the exposes in the past decade of celebrities in MeToo/Epstein/Diddy/Ellen/Corden, and the pandemic that brought all of this along, and Ellen symbolized the now bygone era. It's not a coincidence the "Imagine" fiasco and Ellen's cancellation happened around the same time. People were tired. It's also not a coincidence that Kamala lost the popular vote in 2024 despite the tons of celebrity endorsements - I truly think they don't work anymore and possibly even hurt her candidacy in hindsight. At BEST, they made little to no difference in the results (imo) 2

I think the backlash people like Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence got in the early-mid 2010's was a sign of how social media and internet culture had become about tearing people down. It's easier to create a narrative now about how someone is an awful person (look at this incident from 2009, and this from 2012) and even if you are only disliked by a small number of people they can really create momentum to bring you down.
