What makes someone a successful touring act?

Artists rely on tours more than ever for their music to turn a profit, and artists who have successful tours, especially legacy acts, are seen as in demand even if they are past their peak.

What goes into making someone a successful touring/legacy act and allows them to sell tickets for years on end, especially when they are no longer as commercially relevant?

good stage presence, consistency, reliability, being "known for something" (for example, theatrics like Madonna and Gaga, acrobatics like P!nk, or very long shows like Springsteen). a good catalogue and good dancing and/or singing abilities definitely also help.

Well they are commercially relevant. The money's in touring.

Charts wise maybe not of course, but in a sense these days the charts are there to build up a catalogue of hits that can sustain you touring for a few years, not the other way round.

Think you need to be able to put on a good show so live singing and performance skills become a must.

I agree. And if you don't have these, you'll end up struggling selling out casinos in Vegas.

Some struggle with that, and yet I see them selling out several shows, so it's not that :razzle:

Not only having demand to book more than a handful venus and selling without struggles but also being competent to stick to the plan without erratic behavior like cancelling dates a day before or wrapping up the tour in the middle.

when they can gross at least $400m with 1 tour.

Only four female singers have done that, and three of them with tours from 2023, so I'm guessing the mark should be lower :lakitu:

The ability and reputation to put on a good show.
