Broadway's Death Becomes Her began performances at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre October 23 ahead of a November 21 opening night, and three tracks from the musical have been released. Get a first listen to "If You Want Perfection," "Tell Me, Ernest," and "Alive Forever" in the videos below.

Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard are leading the company as Madeline Ashton and Helen Sharp, respectively, two rivals who gain eternal youth via a magic potion with some dirty side effects. Christopher Sieber and Michelle Williams are co-starring as Ernest Menville and Viola Van Horn, respectively. All four are reprising their performances from the musical's Chicago pre-Broadway tryout earlier this year.

Joining them are Marija Abney, Lauren Celentano, Sarita Colon, Kaleigh Cronin, Natalie Charle Ellis, Taurean Everett, Michael Graceffa, Neil Haskell, Kolton Krouse, Josh Lamon, Sarah Meahl, Ximone Rose, Sir Brock Warren, Bud Weber, Ryan Worsing, and Warren Yang. Swings Kyle Brown, Lakota Knuckle, Johanna Moise, and Amy Quanbeck round out the company. Casting is by Tara Rubin Casting.

The work features a book by Marco Pennette, adapted from the screenplay by Martin Donovan and David Koepp; and songs by Julia Mattison and Noel Carey. Newsies Tony winner Christopher Gattelli is directing and choreographing.

The production features scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Justin Townsend, sound design by Peter Hylenski, hair and wig design by Charles J. LaPointe, makeup design by Joe Dulude II, fight direction by Thomas Schall, music supervision by Mary-Mitchell Campbell, orchestrations by Doug Besterman, dance and incidental music arrangements by Sam Davis, and music direction by Ben Cohn. Rachel Sterner is production stage manager.

The 1992 film, directed and co-produced by Robert Zemeckis, was noted for its relatively early use of CGI to achieve effects like star Meryl Streep's head turned completely backwards and a gaping hole going through her co-star Goldie Hawn. This musical version has been kicking around since at least 2017, when Kristin Chenoweth was attached to star, then with a separate creative team.

Universal Theatrical Group—overseen by Jimmy Horowitz and led by Lowe Cunningham—is producing.

"Death Becomes Her" will receive an original Broadway cast recording. The album, which features a score by Julia Mattison and Noel Carey, will be available digitally and physically in spring 2025. The record, from Concord Theatricals Recordings, is being produced by Sean Patrick Flahaven, Scott M. Riesett, Mattison and Carey. The news comes in advance of the Christopher Gattelli-helmed production's Nov. 21 opening night at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

The production has digitally released an initial song, "For the Gaze," featuring Megan Hilty and the musical's ensemble, as a sneak peak. Three additional songs will be available to stream here beginning at 12:00 a.m. ET on Nov. 21: "If You Want Perfection" performed by Michelle Williams and company; "Tell Me, Ernest" featuring Hilty, Jennifer Simard and Christopher Sieber; and "Alive Forever" featuring Hilty and Simard.

Featuring a book by Marco Pennette, "Death Becomes Her" is based on the 1992 Universal Pictures film of the same name. The musical follows the escapades of adversaries Madeline Ashton (Hilty) and Helen Sharp (Simard) who, after taking a magical potion promising eternal youth, vie for the love and affection of the same man, Ernest Menville (Sieber).

The production features music supervision by Mary-Mitchell Campbell, orchestrations by three-time Tony Award winner Doug Besterman, music direction by Ben Cohn, dance and music arrangements by Tony Award nominee Sam Davis, vocal arrangements by Campbell, Mattison and Carey with music coordination by Kristy Norter.

Other recently released Broadway cast albums from Concord include 2023 Best Musical Theater Album Grammy Award winner "Into the Woods," "Some Like It Hot" and "Mr. Saturday Night."

"Death Becomes Her" is being produced by Universal Theatrical Group, overseen by Jimmy Horowitz and led by Lowe Cunningham.

Let me tell y'all. I saw TWO of these showings in Chicago and it's magnificent. I'm not a Broadway gay whatsoever, no shade, and I realistically went because I love the movie and Michelle. It was beyond what I expected. I don't know what's changed from the previews to the legit show but it's so good

She's been doing theatre in between albums since 2003 with Aida and went back to Broadway in 2010 with Chicago (which she did first in the UK's West End in 2009)

She's also done off-Broadway: The Color Purple (2007), What My Husband Doesn't Know (2011), Fela! (2013)
