Jotham Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago https://bsky.app/profile/advocate.com/post/3lbfkntbcgc26 Quote Transgender people are being targeted by Republicans who are feeling empowered by the results of the general election as they begin taking over Washington, D.C. On Wednesday, Trans Day of Remembrance, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson of Louisiana announced a policy banning transgender people from using bathrooms aligned with their gender identity in the U.S. Capitol and House Office Buildings. The policy, announced in a statement from the speaker's office, reserves all single-sex facilities in the Capitol complex — including restrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms — strictly for individuals based on their gender assigned at birth. "All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings — such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms — are reserved for individuals of that biological sex," Johnson's statement read. He noted that unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol complex and that each congressional office has a private restroom. "Women deserve women's only spaces," Johnson concluded. The policy, which applies exclusively to areas under House jurisdiction, does not extend to Senate-controlled spaces within the Capitol, where Democrats remain in control until January. The new rule follows rising tensions among GOP members of Congress over the election to the House of Sarah McBride, a Democrat from Delaware, who will be the first out transgender member of Congress when she is sworn in. Hector Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago This country is so fucked up and the voters did it to themselves. 5
Popular Post Achilles. Posted 11 hours ago Popular Post Posted 11 hours ago There have probably been trans staffers working on Capitol Hill and using the facilities for years without any issue whatsoever but as soon as a single trans congresswoman is elected they embark on this whole campaign to make life miserable for her specifically. Deplorable was too kind a word for these people. 15
Reginald Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago How much burning hatred do you have to have in your heart to ban one specific representative from using the bathroom? Shame on him, he is a piece of **** who deserves no one's respect. 1
Thuggin Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago They've so thoroughly dehumanized trans people that so many people just take it as a given "well duh, you can't put trans women in the bathroom with cis women" (they obviously wouldn't put it as nicely as I just did there) "because of course they'll abuse women and girls". PEOPLE JUST WANT TO USE THE BATHROOM AND GET OUT! I'm sure that's even more true now for trans people than ever with all the additional scrutiny they're under, like they have to be terrified of even glancing in the wrong direction. People make way too big of a deal about ****ing bathrooms. Men and women already share public spaces. Toilets in women's restrooms are private regardless. Men, women, and children are literally more exposed in proximity to one another in a public pool. Putting passing trans women in men's restrooms doesn't make sense at all, and you can't just deny people the ability to use restrooms. And for the gays who defend this - looking at you Reddit gay men subs - what's stopping them from doing this with gay people next? "You can't let gay men use men's bathrooms or men's changing rooms, they'll look at boys' genitals at the urinals or while they're changing." 5 1
Distantconstellation Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago This is throwing red meat to their maga base who are obsessed with the issue.
Pop Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago They're not even in power yet, and they're already doing all this. LGBTQ members of America, I am so sorry. :( If you can, flee America. If you can't, stay and survive. We love you and we are thinking of you. And for those who voted for this - ** **** ********!
LegaMyth Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Only the beginning. They are coming after all non hetero White people and those who are allied with minorities. 1
commander Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I feel terribly sad for every trans person living there. The US ain't ****
Princess Aurora Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago (edited) It's not January yet and they're announcing a lot of stuff. Whew, they're eager to step inside the White House. Anyway, I'm glad we're reporting news from Bluesky, and not from Musty's social media. Edited 7 hours ago by Princess Aurora 2

TiaTamera Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago What's the difference between saying trans people cannot use the bathroom of their chosen gender because of "religious values" and saying Black people should be segregated because of "religious values"? It's just history repeating itself with a different target group 1
PoisonPill Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I don't think the proposed rule is "banning trans people" rather enforcing that employees use the restroom of their biological sex. But yes, it's clearly targeted at the newly elected trans congresswoman.
XDNA Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) AOC comes out swinging against a Nancy Mace for targeting Sarah McBride. "They're doing this so that Nancy Mace can ... fundraise off an email. They're not doing this to protect people. They're endangering women, they're endangering girls of all kinds. And everybody should reject it. It's gross." https://bsky.app/profile/esqueer.net/post/3lbgh7zqndk26 part 2. https://bsky.app/profile/esqueer.net/post/3lbghbw26hc26 Edited 1 hour ago by XDNA
