Kern Posted November 20 Posted November 20 Does anyone own the Steam Deck? What are your experiences with it? What games do you play on it?
kellebrity98 Posted November 20 Posted November 20 (edited) ahhh i love it so much, i love nintendo switch because of the mobilty but i use this more now, if you have many games that is compatible with the deck Edited November 20 by kellebrity98
smartalek22 Posted November 20 Posted November 20 PC games are too demanding for it imo. The settings/resolutions they have to be run at on the steam deck just to be somewhat playable, isn't what I would accept.

I gotta be honest I feel a little bit scammed with those verified/playable tags, they seem to really strech what 'playable' really means Edited November 20 by Kern

Anthinos Posted November 20 Posted November 20 I have one and I love it. I've played FF7 Remake and Persona 3 Reload and both ran mostly well.
Danixoxo Posted November 20 Posted November 20 i love it!! played persona 5 royal on it, overwatch and ngl it's a great emulator
Alldeezy Posted November 20 Posted November 20 Idk my friend has one of these instead and apparently it runs GTA really well while on steam deck it's probably laggy. So it's very similar to steam deck since you can play all steam games on it
Eóghan Posted November 20 Posted November 20 i sold it. battery life is my biggest pet peeve with it, it's so bad. i mostly play games on pc/steam so this was a no brainer buy for me but i got too annoyed with battery life. might as well play on my gaming laptop when i'm on the move. i might get the OLED version in the future, i heard battery is better
jordanjm Posted November 20 Posted November 20 I love it. Have a launch one, LE translucent one and just bought the white one as well. I play mostly indie games on in while handheld and while docked I play more graphics heavy games. It has been great for getting through my backlog of games and I prefer the steam store to the eshop since I still have access to games I bought a decade ago and I'm not worried about them going away.
Pheromosa Posted November 20 Posted November 20 its better for lower spec games, I've been back and forth about buying one.
fountain Posted November 20 Posted November 20 I luv my OLED steam deck it has made my switch mostly obsolete and feels like I'm playing with a happy meal toy whenever I go back to it. Have had no issues overall. I recommend as long as you are realistic, it's obviously not gonna play the latest AAA releases perfectly but no handheld will. If you want a handheld gaming device, its the one to get.
Scene. Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I'm obsessed with mine. It's fantastic for emulation. Not great for more recent, graphically intensive games despite what the "Verified" tag may lead you to believe. The battery will die w/ those types of games after like, an hour. But for your average JRPG, platformers, or even last-gen PS4 / Xbox One era games, it's great.

I got one in April because I wanted to play Talos Principle 2 and it wouldn't run on my laptop. It has pros and cons... bigger games will run but at what cost? The battery lasts like an hour and it gets overheated fast. I played UFO 50 and Control on it recently and those games were good for me in a sense that they worked well and they aren't on the Switch currently so they justifed my purchase. Games like Baldurs Gate 3 you have to play plugged in and apparently only up to Act 3 so not a good deal. There are also games that are "playable" depending on who you ask which is annoying.

Does all this overheating and battery situation apply to the OLED version?? Cos while i was doing some research on whether to get one, the oled is supposed to have remedied these things no?
Jotham Posted November 22 Posted November 22 I love my Steam Deck! I got the original version last year and it's one of my favorite purchases I've ever made. I've been using it a lot to play American Truck Simulator, it's a good passive game to play while watching movies or listening to music. I mainly use it for emulation though. Dolphin runs really well and I've been playing Wind Waker on there lately.
