if Whitney Houston released "No More Drama" album in 2001 instead of Mary J Blige?

After Whitney signed a massive record label deal following My Love Is Your Love era where she collaborated with R&B artists and producers popular in mid-to-late 90s, including then upcoming Missy Elliott.

 

She would follow-up her album with Just Whitney in 2002 which was a massive commercial failure. But I was wondering if Whitney went to then upcoming producers such as Pharell Williams and collaborated with new artists like rapper Eve, etc. would "No More Drama" be bigger era than Mary's or would Whitney flop?

 

I would love to hear Whitney on tracks such as Where I've Been, No More Drama, In the Meantime, Destiny, Beautiful Day and bops such as Dance for Me, Steal Away and Family Affair?

 

Would Family Affair be a huge smash if sang under Whitney?

It definitely would've done much better than Just Whitney however I feel like there are songs on that album that only Mary can pull off (like the title track… the amount of rawness and pain that she exhibits in that song is amazing).

It could've been massive. Whitney was huge and her singing No More Drama is already just fascinating to think about. I think it would've been a big era for her and a reinvention of sorts. It's a shame that never happened.

I definitely think that this project would've helped Whitney transition better into the new landscape of music during that era.

This! Just like Whitney, Mary has her own sauce that can't really be replicated by anyone.

I could totally hear Whitney doing family affair, that would've been a hit! NMD is giving Mary tho
