BrentB Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) What do we, as a left-leaning collective, need to RID ourselves of moving forward, from 2025 & onwards? For me personally, I would start off by saying that cancel culture needs to DISSAPPEAR altogether & not ever make a comeback in like our lifetime & in the future in general. It didn't work. It created more of counter-culture backlash than we would have anticipated. I'd say we all know, by now, the types of people to avoid giving our energy, views & outrage to. We need to vote with our dollar silently & let the right be the emotional reactionary ones in general. We need to try our best to only support pro women, LGBT, racial equality etc. businesses & content creators & just leave it at that. We need less emotion & outrage (that would only feed into "own the libs" baiting & gaslighting tactics) and the "angry & scorned" persona needs to be dialed down significantly, and in its place, a heavy-handed, matter-of-fact, brazen & group-think tone & demeanor should arise COLLECTIVELY within us all tbh. This might be controversial to some of y'all but I say that pride flags & pro LGBT ads need to go down post-June (or whatever month pride is to you) tbh. Where I live (in Canada) some major corporations still have rainbow flag motifs all in their displays during the dead of winter at times, but no BLM or Woman's history month logos in sight. I get this might sound pick-me of me, but other marginalized groups have caught on to the LGBT getting more of a "spotlight" & platform then they ever could hope for & I get that the LGBT may need this more than perhaps certain groups, but a lot of people from marginalized groups have been, over the years, spewing & spreading anti-LGBT takes & favoritism & elitism accusations & conspiracies. And to be fair, if corporations are going to pander to the pink dollar, they should also pander to other marginalized groups lbr. So this means changing their logos for Woman's history month, or Asian history month for instance. We need to let go of that "after-school special" vibe & aesthetic to us. We're NOT victims. We are STRONG & RESILIENT & we've weathered a lot of storms for any far right goblin oompah-loompah to see us as any sort of victim tbh. I hate to always see us be reduced to a sob-story or like a damsel type of energy. Celebrity Endorsements tbh. Need I expand on this ? Edited 3 hours ago by BrentB 13
Kylizzle Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago So we need to get rid of cancel culture (which basically does nothing to anyone's career if they wait a few years, just ask Ellen/Mel Gibson/Ricky Gervais/Woody Allen/Kevin Spacey) and support for LGBTQ people Interesting 2025 you envision... 3
Achilles. Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Democrats should run against celebrities and the elite instead of sucking up to them. It's been nearly a decade and the party still has their heads in the sand concerning the anti-establishment and anti-elite sentiments among large portions of the populace. The consultant class is absolutely worthless as well. 6
woohoo Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Get rid of everything that doesn't involve Medicare for all(but rebrand it as something different so the incels will get it and EXPLAIN the extra tax waives the insane monthly insurance premiums), raising the minimum wage, have serious plans for the housing crisis, stop with taxing unrealized gains because people think they'll be billionaires one day and hate it, it is what it is, get a handle on the cost of college and have a better plan for the student loan crisis than biden(he tried, I'll give him that, he tried), and for the love of Everything on this planet start playing as dirty as republicans. Call them out on every network and social medias for their lies. Then as far as social issues go, weave those into policy discussions and debates as needed. If it's not clear which party stands for our rights by now, I don't know what to tell you 1
Reflektor Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago "Harm reduction" via the Democratic Party. Until we recognize our struggle is for COLLECTIVE LIBERATION we will be unable to truly combat the capitalist structures and powerful interests who are happy to weaponize our sectarianism. We fight for everyone, from Palestine, to queer liberation, to even the liberation of the Tr*mp voter who has been so run amok as to vote against their own interest thinking they are empowering themselves. 1 2
Onyxmage Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Id say get off of your online soap box, as the OP is doing and actually do something for your local candidates. 1
Peroxide Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago So you want us to pander to the right? That's what the dems tried to do with Kamala… it didn't work. Cancel culture is a nebulous term. It isn't exclusive to the left - online hostility is rampant everywhere. Fact of the matter is we live in an incredibly divisive timeline where there is absolutely no room for nuance or discussion - I have no constructive argument for how best that can be countered… Whilst mob mentality is toxic, public figures should be held accountable for poor behaviour. Not to the extent of death threats or doxxing… but if you've been found liable for rape or domestic violence… I'm not going to support your projects. Period. I don't really think discussions around "we shouldn't showcase pride flags outside of June" are very helpful. There's a huge amount of infighting in queer spaces right now about how best to "brand" ourselves to the masses; it's sadly true that support for LGBTQ+ issues has been dropping off over the last couple of years. The right has directly targeted trans people (mainly trans youth) and it's been horrifyingly effective. The only thing I can say to combat this issue is to reiterate… "do you really care which bathroom a trans person chooses to p*ss in when your social security and healthcare are in jeopardy". The right is obsessed with cultural issues because that's ALL they have as ammunition. They need the 99% fighting each other and pointing the future whilst those at the very top of the food chain continue to take, take, take. 3 1
Arthoe Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Civility discourse and politness. You know what being nice brings people in this world? People accusing you of not being nice enough. I'm tired of this "when they go low, we go high" BS, it never has worked and it never will work. The only thing that effectively influences politics is fear, and the poltical left has spent the last 30 years trying out therapy-speak each other. There will be no meaningful improvent to all of our lives, unless the poltical middle and the poltical right are genuinely afraid of the political left. 1
Peroxide Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Honestly the dems need a ROGUE candidate. They need a disrupter… the status quo isn't working anymore. The re-election of Trump has confirmed that. If the Republicans can embrace Trump literally anything is possible. 5 1

The re-election of Trump has confirmed that. If the Republicans can embrace Trump literally anything is possible. They also need people that can speak to the left and gain a wide audience. The right have their Andrew Tate, Candice Owen, Nick Fuentes, etc. The left has no one on that level, because once they say something they don't like they destroy them. Leftist infighting is so common, and well written about. So what we're saying will never happen. The left ultimately needs to stop the purity tests, and trying to have an Olympics of being better than the next person. 1
suburbannature Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago It's quite irritating that the right appeal to their base by being openly hateful, incompetent, and perpetual liars, but the left is continually being asked about lessons learned and strategies. 2
godmess Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Get rid of the type of thinking that would make "brat for kamala" 1
Trent W Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I think that everyone in the left needs to chill and stop this "angry character" persona It's common knowledge that normal people don't like lefists because most of them are just annoying and complaining all the time, this is obviously not true to everyone on the left, but its a stereotype. Also stop fighting with centrists, the right is 10x more united and align in ideals 2 1

That's because the left holds everyone accountable, including itself, and destroys within Right winger's are more dumb and align easily in stupidity The left eats itself most of the time 1
Domination Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago The left will continue to flop into oblivion until the average leftist learns to accept nuance and difficult truths (eg. you cannot just try to adopt Scandinavian-style socialism in a country as large and diverse as the US and expect it to be successful and the existence of such countries are not evidence of that). Leftists in the West are also overly dogmatic in ways that leftists living in socialist/marxist countries are not and cling to "theory" as if it is gospel. 2
Beyonnaise Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Among other more complex thoughts, one very simple thought is just that the left needs people who are cool. This usually means going against the grain in some way. Think Obama disrupting the Clinton/Bush dynasties in 2008, Bernie taking on the rich in 2016, AOC beating a milquetoast incumbent in her 2018 primary. No one thought Kamala represented any sort of threat to the fossilized establishment. 1
Cruel Summer Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Liberalism in general, which has miserably failed, must be discarded for leftist populist policy. 1
Happylittlepunk Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago The left needs to focus more on economic issues and less cultural. It's clear Americans care about that more and the elections proved it. Women and lgbtq+ community needs to care and support men's issues also and not just ignore it or treat it like it doesn't matter. The backlash was very real for both groups. The left needs to stop eating itself. Every time someone from the left gets a bit of attention they get immediately knocked down when something or someone doesn't align with the left 100% due too fact they said something controversial, being outspoken, or there history/past. There are some media reporters who are very good at staying leftist they always get snarky comments here and online simply because they are not perfect like David Pakman and Crystal ball. 1
dumbsparce Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago How is this any different than what the left has been doing since the early 10s? Wtf does "only support pro-everything" mean? I won't show my support or give my money to someone who's openly a bigot but I also don't and won't demand from anyone to disclose their views.
Elementary Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago This need to correct everyone and be the morally superior person in the table. The chronically online angry vegan ultra feminist echo fighter communist friendly radical character needs to be retired and left in the 2010s where it belongs. 2
Capris Groove Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) I love theatre and go to a lot of plays. In 2015 you would hear an announcement before it begins like "We would like to acknowledge that the land that we are gathered on is the traditional territories of the First Nations, whose relationship with the land continues today." Simple, lovely, even inclusive. Somehow... that wasn't enough. I went to a drag show last week and the MC went on a tangent about how everyone in the room is a "violent, illegal settler" (exact words), that we all need to acknowledge our privilege, and that even acknowledging it isn't enough we need to actively be prepared to give up power and status and return the land. Among other things. It went on for at least a minute and everyone was like WTF. That's an example of the kind of orthodoxical and aggressive messaging that we need to give up. Or not, and the left continues to lose. Edited 2 hours ago by Capris Groove 1
