Slap Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I'm doing a series of threads (if it flops I'll just call it a buzz thread) about hypothetical "Sliding Doors" moments in pop culture. For those who don't know it, Sliding Doors is a movie with wellness jade egg influencer Gwenyth Paltrow about how small moments like missing a train can have a huge impact on the trajectory of life. The scenario: It's 2007, Gimme More is doing pretty well considering the media harassment Britney is experiencing. She goes to do her 2007 VMAs performance, except things go to plan and she doesn't have a panic attack before the performance. The performance is received well and becomes a pop culture moment like her previous VMA performances. So, with this one small change, how do you think Britney's life and career would have played out since this moment? How would it be different? Would she still have been placed under a conservatorship? Would she have released more singles from Blackout? What would her next album or albums have sounded like? Do you think this one moment could have changed everything for her?
prettyinpink940 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Her personal life still would have been the same. Not much would have changed imo. It just would have given the media one less chance of unfairly ridiculing her.
Asparagus Spears Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Everything would have stayed the same except she would have been known as the crazy girl who can still put on a show. She was on par with Michael Jackson. The person is just as famous as the music. It wouldn't have mattered if she pulled off that routine. People still talk ****
sailor angel Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago It could've been the best performance of her career and the reaction still would've been the same. The press and the public was ready to **** all over her no matter what sadly. 1
Jeremiah Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago People were just out for a hunt with her. Even with the spectacular album that Blackout turned out to be, they were in denial and coming with all kind of excuses to not praise it accordingly. So if the performance was better, they'd been like "ok you win this one but we still hate you and wait for your end". 1
l3disko Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I don't see the Gimme More performance being received well, no matter how well she was prepared. It was her comeback moment and people wanted to see intense dancing and the old Britney back. Gimme More just wasn't that type of the song (even though its great) and the choreography was... simple compared to what she was doing before her hiatus. 1
TipToe Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago If everything else remained the same but only that performance had gone differently ... nothing would change, i guess!? It's not like a VMA performance had that much power over her career, she had too many things to fix in many areas.
jomarr Posted 38 minutes ago Posted 38 minutes ago It will never be good enough for the press at that time. Even if she aced that performance like Britney circa-2004, the press would still have something to nit pick. "Britney performs at the VMAs but who is taking care of her children?" "Britney, a mom, strips for the VMAs" "Britney showcases beer belly at the VMAs" (even if she wasn't even fat) ^^ these would still be the headlines for sure
