Timeless Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Teenage Dream is bigger than any Xtina album be serious 3 2 1
Pheromosa Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago no shade but when was xtina's peak? What a girl wants? 1 7 1 4
ChooseyLover Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Katy's hits were bigger than Katy herself. Christina in her prime was a big enough star that her status didn't depend on how well the songs did on the charts and that's the tea. She was selling albums like biscuits. 7
ericcartman Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Katy. Teenage Dream is one of the biggest pop eras of the century.

I don't think it's incompatible tbh. I was alive to see both at their primes and Xtina was a big star from her debut up until Burlesque. That's 10 years. She was respected as a musician and a vocalist (being invited to tribute the greatest singers in the world) and had major success in all her ventures. She was on Lady Marmalade and ate all the other girlies up and mind you, she was barely a year or two into her career. This forum loves to discredit Xtina with their short span memories but I remember. Edited 2 hours ago by ChooseyLover 2
Robyn. Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Katy has more hits and her tours were also bigger. Christina might have an edge with album sales, also because she debuted in a different time. But then again, it's very tricky to compare peaks from two different periods of time because during Xtina's time, tours were not as profitable as when Katy went on The Prismatic Tour. So this is kind of a hard question to answer, both of them had 3 hit albums though. 1

I'm not disagreeing with your takes on Xtina (I love her too, she's one of my faves) but to dismiss Katy's status as one of the biggest hitmakers of the last 20 years is not it 1
BGKC Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago From a strictly commercial standpoint, Katy. Though Xtina's debut was massive based on her big, distinctive voice alone. People bought into the voice and it earned her a lot of respect for years to come. Katy's peak didn't translate into anything other than the fact that it was her peak and it's time to sonically mature and innovate (she won't)

But looking back her peak is giving Paula Abdul, not Michael Jackson. I think her big era was bigger than her as a public figure/singer if that makes sense and it's totally normal. I think it applies to Kesha as well and you guys know I love her.
halcyonday Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Be for real. Katy's peak is one of the biggest ones ever, only bigger by someone like Gaga, Britney, etc. 1
superglowy Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Christina debut album sales blow 'Teenage Dream' away and she had 4 #1s in that period (GIAB, WAGW, COOB, LM) and her and Britney paved the way (after 'The Spice Girls' broke down the wall) for the pop landscape we have today. I know Xtina post 'Back To Basics' is as floppy as a wet noodle but be serious!
SoundsandSongs Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago From a chart run and number of units moved perspective it's objectively Katy. You can't deny Katy's insane run. Her hits are also more remembered than Xtina's.

I was born after her peak so I wasnt alive to witness her back to back no1s in her debut. For a chart run history tho her peak looks very short.
DevilsRollTheDice Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I know we love to dunk on Katy but Teenage Dream alone is bigger than Xtina's entire career

I was just a kid and I became a stan as a teenager but she really felt comparable to Britney in terms of how big of celebrities they were. There's a reason why she is the only one who came close. Her debut was huge and the Spanish counterpart did a lot of noise in my country and Latin America. Her chart run history imo explains my point: she didn't need a long charting song to prove she was a MPG. While Katy had been holding on for dear life to have a hit and when that stopped happening her star power feels as small as Nelly Furtado's or Paula Abdul's. Christina made great bodies of work. And I think her several four year hiatus being unable to knock her down were a testament to how much of a household name she was. Everyone knows her voice and her name. It's really a shame she couldn't compete with the new wave generation of pop stars Gaga and Katy were in. Which is why users may have the impression Katy was bigger.
