Why are The Edge of Glory recurrent streams poor

BTW the album has had a bit of a renaissance the last few years with Bloody Mary and Judas going viral and now is among her most streamed albums following years of poor streams.

The edge of Glory is objectively her most GP friendly song, especially on that album. It's also a pretty good song though that is subjective.

Gaga has kind of adopted it as one of her signature songs. A small cameo in her Superbowl show, always performed on her tours (I think?), performed for Kamal Harris rally and that show with the 5 presidents a few years ago.

Disclaimer: this is not a troll thread. I genuinely feel it should be doing better.

What gives?

Because Judas clears with ease :jonny5::jonny5:

It's about time this fanbase accepted this

to be honest I have no idea. it's a great song, and it was a big hit back then, so I really don't know why its streams are so low these days? the MV being disappointing and the song being +5 minutes are probably part of the explication, but there are songs with bad MV that do big numbers, so I don't know. :chick1:

Who wouldn't listen to a song with such poetic chorus?

I'm on the edge of glory
And I'm hangin' on a moment of truth
I'm on the edge of glory
And I'm hangin' on a moment with you
I'm on the edge
The edge, the edge, the edge
The edge, the edge, the edge
I'm on the edge of glory
And I'm hangin' on a moment with you
I'm on the edge with you

The streaming audience has no taste.

1. the GP is deaf

2. everybody got it via youtube2mp3 and has been spinning the same low bitrate file since it dropped

3. spotify is lying, real numbers soon

pick one of the above!!

I was thinking the same thing the other day. I guess it isn't exactly risqué in the way Judas or Bloody Mary was. Songs like those go viral among a generation that likes to make edgy edits on TikTok. TEOG could have its moment eventually, but that's my little take. I noticed the same thing with Haunted by Beyoncé. Though not nearly as viral as the recent viral songs from BTW, but it's steadily been her most streamed song on ST for months now bc of some edgy edits.

On a serious note, it probably has something to do with its length (5+ mins) and being the final track. It's a brilliantly crafted pop song but lacks the distinctive, hard edge that the rest of BTW tracks that went viral (BM, Judas, GH, HML) have that capture its ethos way more than TEOG.

because it's the longest song on the album, it's not a cheap burger you grab at mcdoland's on the go, it's a full grass fed home made meal :suburban:

This always reminds me of how woefully mismanaged this era was :deadbanana2:. Weird because it has such a special place in my heart and the promotional period was truly one for the all time history books.

I truly believe that had TEOG been the lead or even second single with a proper music video it would be regarded along with PF BR and Shallow. SUCH a great song. So anthemic. Easy to see it being used for all kinds of events. Unfortunately I think the timing was just terrible. Her hate bandwagon + apathy for her antics was really brewing by then. I really hope it gets its flowers one day.

But a stream counts if you play it for 30 seconds, so even if they skip to the next song after the bridge for example, it would count. I don't even notice the track length when I press play, I'll just skip to the next song it's going too long.

It's due for its big tik tok moment obviously. I hope it happens soon though. I love Judas and Bloody Mary but lowkey jealous that they are stealing all the thunder from TEOG.

No TikTok

Recurrent streaming has a lot to do with playlisting, trends & chance vitality.

Edge of Glory was a bigger hit at the the time - but frothy late 00s/early 10s dance-pop is what's en vogue right now; hence why the likes of Judas and LoveGame are out-streaming it (and likely getting added to more important playlists).

I feel like the video was super boring, and most if not all of her videos during BTW were controversial and intricate. TEOG was literally her on a fire escape and walking the streets of NY.

edit: Yoü is a better song & visual anyways, it deserves

it doesnt have the quality of judas of the viralness of blood mary

It's not the type of song you want to hear 500 times.

I don't know but it's so good, I remember when it was released, I blasted the **** out of it, oh the good ol days.

I have never really enjoyed it, it sounds nothing like a Gaga song in my opinion, the rest of BTW is much more interesting

It's her best song. @RideOrDie

But it's too exquisite for the GP I fear. Also, it's the longest song on the album, and these days it's hard for 5 minutes long songs to go viral. The attention span is like 2-3 mins thanks to TikTok.

In addition to all the things that have been said already, it also has a very long intro that sounds very distinctive from the rest of the song.

Most people decide to swipe past a song within the first 5 to 10 seconds iirc

As much as i love it i think it suffers a little for being one of the cringier Gaga songs, especially with the streaming audience, that realistically, any diva could belt out. I think it's always attached to like some form of politics and/or big inspirational event moment.

Songs like Bloody Mary, Judas, Schiesse, Electric Chapal, Government Hooker all feel SO Gaga and still to this day feel very unique

I really wish the music video was that google chrome ad :chick3:

The highlight of the chorus is the melody and her vocal, so idk what point you're trying to make here

In terms of "cringe" songs:

Firework: 600k daily streams

Fight song: 280k

Bonus

Hero (90s): 125k

Greatest love of all (80s): 101k

Edge of Glory: 125k
