Was Gaga unfairly dragged for BTW song?

Recommended Posts

Back then when BTW single was released everyone criticised it for copying Madonna's express yourself because of some chord progression crap. Fast forward to 2024, and Bruno/Rose Ata pata sounds similar to Gaga's bad romance, Judas etc. But no one is dragging Rose now. What gives? Should OGHs apologise to gaga and her fans for 2011?

Did Rosè and Bruno release a new version of APT that I'm not aware of?

Yes and everybody who dragged her deserves prison time. :xtinass:

No, deserved more lashings for appropriating gay culture.

I mean the video says it's the basically the most used melody ever so I'm inclined to believe Gaga copied it back then too and we should drag her for BR and Judas too..? Or this is all very silly and BTW was dragged for being similar on more than just a chord expression but also its lyrical content

Yes.   I think there are countless songs out there with similarities far greater than Born This Way/Express Yourself....it just became a a big news story since it was such a highly anticipated single and there were already comparisons between Gaga and Madonna.  At the end of the day, they're both dance pop songs with the sam chord progression, but the top lines are very different.

Thankfully, the song/album did make an impact and reached a ton of people.

No the songs are the same. Like an Ava Max interpolaition/sample. You can sing each song on top of it and the melody matched 80%

Second the songs MESSAGES AND MEANING ARE SIMILAR, they are both uplifing anthems for their communitty etc

What gaga did was ava maxing Express Yourself...

In retrospect Madonna was too nice she should have send Gaga to Court or even prison...

Yes. Born This Way was ahead of its time and its meaning is more important now than ever. It ushered in an era of music that allowed LGBT voices to be normalized in pop music.

It was all fueled by Madonnas insecurity towards the new girls

no one actually cared

oh definitely

honestly when I read the title I thought it was gonna be about some of the lyrics (see: the bridge) and I think she was dragged exactly the right amount for some of those lyrics :toofunny2: but yes, re: the Express Yourself bullsh*t she was dragged WAY too much! I honestly have to say that Express Yourself is bottom three for me on Like a Prayer (:sorry:) but even if it wasn't, I wouldn't have noticed the similarities with the Born This Way chorus unless someone had pointed it out to me first. can confidently say that. the two songs have very different tones too, which may feel like an unpopular opinion, but idk… Express Yourself is not peak Madonna maximalism, Born This Way is amongst Gaga's most maximalist and bombastic sounding songs

i mean it does sound like express yourself but every other songs sound like an older song it happened a lot in music, people only made it big cause it's Gaga and Madonna

This was not some obscure similar song

Gaga was dressed as Madonna, Cosplaying her interviews on her own interviews, she studied rvery movement like she did with Patricia, Harlequin, Ally Etc... Gaga was acting as 1990 Madonna. And on top of that she sang now one of her biggest hits...

Its actually not surprising that she never reached a solo peak since she run out of material to copy

What is this reach? You could find outfits much more similair than these

The media was bored and just needed a way to pit Gags & Madge against each other and Madonna played into it.

She was Gaga's biggest fan initially.

Born This Way deserved the lashings it got, not just for going too far in her homage to Madonna, but for co-opting a LGBT+ slogan for her own use. (Not to mention that problematic bridge.) That being said, if we're being pragmatic, that song ended up meaning a lot for young listeners, so I can't fully hate it. It ultimately doing a lot of good. Personally, I just let it sit there.

Its not just the outfits, it was also the context where it was used

Gaga had a Larry King late night interview via satelite to defend Born This Way and gay rights and she choose a look from when...

Madonna did a interview on latenight via sateline to defend Jusrify My love and sexual freedom.

Gaga also hired Mama makeup who did Madonna make up in this era
