SoldierofLove Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Whoopi Goldberg is drawing criticism online for referring to herself as a "working person" on a recent episode of "The View." "I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me too," she said. "I work for a living. If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here. I'm a working person, you know, and my kid has to feed her family, you know, and my great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family," Goldberg continued. Goldberg has hosted "The View" since 2007. In 2016, Variety reported that her annual salary as a host on "The View" was in the $5 million to $6 million range. Multiple media outlets have reported that her net worth is $60 million, although this figure is not verified. This isn't the first time the EGOT winner has been called out of touch for comments she's made about money. In an episode of "The View" that aired in November 2023, Goldberg said young people can't afford to buy houses because they don't work hard enough. "Every generation comes and wants to do better than their parents did … every generation," Goldberg said in the episode. "But I'm sorry if you only want to work four hours, it's going to be harder for you to get a house," she added. https://www.businessinsider.com/whoopi-goldberg-working-person-comments-election-working-class-the-view-2024-11 2

Abracadabra Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 What she means is that her lifestyle is expensive to fund but she's articulating it in a way that makes it sound like she couldn't survive without working 3
Thuggin Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Whoopi never adds anything useful to the discussions 3

ariananext Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Everyone thinks they have it hard when there's people doing much worse, that's how humankind is, at least in the west/first world countries, and while comparison isn't beneficial for anybody, hearing something like this coming out of a millionaire's mouth is crazy and perspective is always needed. Like even if you think that why do you think it's a good idea to say it on TV, discuss it with other people in your range who may be able to understand. I can't stand people who are so self absorbed and privileged, but especially, so insensitive towards people around them. Also, are her children and grandchildren, for some reason, unable to work/earn money for themselves? 3
Paddy Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 You make around 5/6 million a year? For how many years? How big is the family she's feeding? If she spends 5/6 million a year on her luxurious life then maybe perhaps, she could change that a little bit.
Gelato Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 she is so right. times are hard for everyone, for example my dad got less in dividends so my weekly allowance has been reduced from $6k to $5k. it's hard out here for a ***** 2

Tm4074 Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 And liberals wonder why Trump won again. This is who the Democratic party represents, the out-of-touch elites who cry foul in their penthouses and mansions. Give me a break. 3 1 1 1
Oktober Knight Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 She probably makes like $2M a year from Sister Act royalties alone. Girl STFU 2
Gesamtkunstwerk Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Please not the "I can barely afford my very expensive luxury lifestyle "
glitch Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 The conviction with which she spouts this bullshit is quite admirable in way. And the braindead audience who will clap for anything
teresaguidice Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 (edited) i know this is just run of the mill out-of-touch rich person stuff, but its especially funny coming from whoopi who is almost never knowledgable or prepared on any segment, squints to read the prompter to still mispronounce every other name, and is often fully talking with her mouth full on live TV. she might've hustled back in the day but she is by no means the paragon of hard work today. i genuinely think she works 4 hours a week lol.
