Bluesky tops the US App Store, as people leave X behind

After the election, lots of people are trying to find an alternative to Elon Musk's X, formerly known as Twitter, and it looks like many are moving to Bluesky.

It's #1 on the App Store right now.

If you want to preview what Bluesky is like, here's the website.

https://bsky.app

Bluesky was created by the former CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, but he's no longer a part of its board. The site is owned by Jay Graber and Jeremie Miller.

It's apparently safer for LGBTQ+ people, too. https://www.advocate.com/business/bluesky-lgbtq-twitter-alternative

But so far it hasn't had that many users. Let's see if this becomes a bigger trend.

Funny thing is...this in the end what Elon wanted...Twitter dead. And now that he's in Trumps cabinet, I doubt he's gonna care about it anymore.

Funny thing #2, people flocking to the app of the former owner of Twitter...

I joined a few days ago and it's definitely more peaceful. I fear when all the lunatics join, that'll change. It's giving early Tumblr vibes right now.

I want to leave Twitter but from scrolling through Bluesky it looks like the home of middle aged centrist liberals

Literally. It's all so corny and aesthetically abhorrent

I feel like the plan was always to turn it into a far right disinformation machine cause Truth Social, etc had no chance of ever taking off. Trump doesn't even like Elon and yet he managed to infiltrate the government because of how valuable he is as a donor and propagandist

I've read this headline at least 6 times since 2022

X has an irreplaceable niches, the only people leaving are liberals who are too focused in the elections

All the other niches won't move, not even the stan world

Threads was the biggest shot to destroy Twitter and it failed big time

Threads sucks because it forces you to download the app. I'd use it if I could just use my Instagram account and it was like another tab on Instagram. But needing a whole new app? Nah

I wish you could modify the color of it. Imagine a pink butterfly logo, hehe. Or any color really. Would be fun. :chick1:

Threads is just an extension of instagram, is the same people posting the same pictures

There is no political, social or even entertainment discussion in a large scale

Its also becoming another cesspool for the dudebro crowd cuz half of the threads that are not my friends is the same alt right crowd bitching about "woke Disney" and fake entertainment news.

Is there a large Vanessa Carlton and Michelle Branch stanbase community on Bluesky? If so, I might join

I kinda dislike that they autogenerate a longer username with the .blue.sky stuff :deadbanana:

I've had an account since last year but haven't used it yet :rip: I kinda wish it still required an invitation to join because the last thing it needs is the MAGAts and bots joining.

You can change that! But the reason is that every user profile is basically a separate web page; that's kinda the while point of Bsky being decetralized.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

Stopped using twitter a few months ago and as much as I'd like to try Bluesky my life has been more peaceful without it so I think I might pass. My goal is to stop using any social media eventually.
