jakeisphat Posted November 11 Posted November 11 My pick would be Michelle Rodriguez. She was typecasted as soon as Girlfight was released. While that film led to her being a female action star, it is actually the most emotional performance of her career. Since then, she has been typecasted for action films, but every now and then she takes a small part where she shows a more vulnerable side and she does a pretty good job. Despite typecasting, Michelle has said she does it on purpose: Quote "Oh baby, I was typecast the minute I did a film called, Girlfight years ago. That has nothing to do with anything, it just to do with... you allow yourself to be typecast. If I decided I didn't want to be typecast tomorrow I'd just go do an indie film where I play some poor girl who goes through some excruciating experience and win myself an award for crying or being raped [breaks into laughter] or playing someone with mental illness. But at the end of the day I'm not in it for the acting. If I were in it for the acting then I would be worried about people not giving me the opportunity to express my vast array of emotions on the screen. I could give two shits. I only wanna be someone or I respect or someone that I consider interesting or fun. I'm here to entertain people and make a statement about female empowerment and strength and that's what I've done for the last 10 years, and people can call it typecast, but I pigeonholed myself and I put myself in that box for saying no to everything else that came on my plate. Saying no to the girlfriend, saying no to the girl that gets captured, no to this, no to that. and eventually I just got left with the strong chick that's always being killed and there's nothing wrong with that." Here are some scenes where she's not being a badass the entire time: Spoiler Who are some actors that you feel would actually have a good acting range if it were not for them being typecasted into specific genres (action, comedy, romance, etc.)?
TiaTamera Posted November 11 Posted November 11 I feel like Jim Carey could have done well outside of comedy and family movies/shows like Will Smith. Not as prominent but more like a Shia Labouf. Shai Labouf was doing well as a comedy Disney star that pivoted out but he messed things up with his antics. I loved Eagle Eye. Zendaya and Shai are the only Disney stars that went blockbuster right? Am I missing anyone? Keke Palmer too and I'll lump in Ariana even though she's Nick. Oh and Zach Efron.

Elementary Posted November 12 Posted November 12 Helena Bonham Carter She has way more to offer than being the creepy ugly lady of the film. Unpopular opinion but Sarah Michelle Gellar could have done more if they hadn't booked her into flop films where she's basically playing herself.

He did do well outside of comedy. Look at movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Truman show.

If anything, that's a testament to how talented she is, can you imagine how much bigger she'd be if she had more diverse roles to choose from? She was fantastic in Ma and in Mom, she 100% has the range to pull it off
Dolce Vita Posted November 12 Posted November 12 i'd say emma roberts but i kinda feel like she's typecast for a reason, she only really excels when she's playing a bitchy mean girl type character
