Popular Post alexrex Posted November 10 Popular Post Posted November 10 In the past, I would have agreed that it goes against the freedom of religion, self-expression, etc, etc... But many muslim countries have these rules that go against women liberties and LGBTQ+ folks (and claim that it's their culture and should be respected, so people should follow). So I'm glad it's the same the other way around. And if you don't like it, you can go. 34 11 1

Doctor Dick Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Great! It's oppression covered up (pun intended). Afghani women are now not allowed to speak in public. The whole Middle East is filled with these strict laws and good for Switzerland to achieve this. 1 2 1

Companion Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Wow I tought Switzerland was more open minded and prioritize freedom and safety better than other european countries. Such a shame cuz I really enjoyed my time on there and people seemed really nice and great. Wishing for a better future where women doesn't get judged for their clothes and their beliefs. 6 3 34

heckinglovato Posted November 10 Posted November 10 (edited) Where do you draw the line of "oppressive" and who draws it? Should the government get to legislate oppression? Why is a face cover oppressive and not a headscarf? And if a headscarf is also oppressive then will Catholic nuns attire also be banned? Or is it only oppressive if it originates from a non-Western culture? Also how come when Afghanistan/Taliban legislate their "culture" the immediate reaction here is we should bomb them or implement regime change, but when western governments want to legislate their "culture" (a Swiss culture of skiing in ski masks in the Alps but women can't choose to cover their face if they wish), then everyone applauds it? So many questions! Edited November 10 by heckinglovato 14 2 15
Delirious Posted November 10 Posted November 10 (edited) Tbh not sure if I agree with this. Imo you should be allowed to wear whatever you want because it's only impacting yourself and where does it draw the line? Is it for any clothing that covers the face? If so then that makes sense but if it's even hijab that dont cover the face then... Edited November 10 by Delirious 6 4

Archetype Posted November 10 Posted November 10 But what will the men who spend 3 months per year in Genève do if they can't fly their 4 wives over to follow them around pushing baby strollers with their entire bodies covered up in 32C heat all day? Maybe they'll need to allow their wives to have a bit more freedom if they want to enjoy Swiss life… 5
