There's nothing random about this interaction and why it got picked up by brazilian media (and international news sources too). 1. Brazil is the largest country in Latin America, one of the biggest economies in the world, and has one of the most racially diverse populations on the planet. There's no scenario in which it could possibly be considered a "random country." However, even if the incident had occurred on some small island in Oceania, that would still not be an excuse for an anti-Black racist attack to be brushed under the rug; 2. G1 is one of the most credible news sources in Brazil. Why wouldn't it post news related to the country? it makes sense that foreign media keep up with what is posted there; 3. Boipeba isn't some random village either. Boipeba, along with Morro de São Paulo, is well-known for being a major spot for Israeli tourists for decades now. They're everywhere there. There are Hebrew signs around the entire place, synagogues, Israeli restaurants, and even kosher grocery stores, all dedicated to cater to them. These islands/villages are located in Bahia, a Brazilian state that is predominantly Black, and instances of white foreign tourists, especially Israelis, being involved in anti-Black racist attacks there have been rising in the past few years. OT: Disgusting, but not surprising. Edited November 10 by Scars 2 3

OT: Disgusting, but not surprising. Still a random country though in a sense that it happened once in one random place. Not some kind of systemic act. You are all making no sense. This is equivalent to right wing media always posting specifically about crimes committed by immigrants and people of colour and hardly ever reporting any white people crimes to paint a specific picture and push a specific agenda. What you are all doing is no better. Take your frustrations on Israel, not on random Jews. 5
Scars Posted November 10 Posted November 10 My post: "Boipeba is located in a poor, predominantly Black Brazilian area experiencing an influx of upper-middle-class White tourists, especially from Israel. Gentrification is underway, and incidents of anti-Black attacks are actually increasing. Racial tension is on the rise." Thank you for making it clear that you have nothing meaningful to add to the conversation other than throwing around the word "anti-Semitism", I guess. 8

You're trying really really hard to justify picking on that, but where are the similar threads about hate crimes from other nationals in that area? Why is an Israeli citizen is being singled out? Give balanced reporting or don't report at all unless you have an agenda and clearly the OP and everyone acting outraged in this thread do. Quit acting innocent. 3
harwee Posted November 10 Posted November 10 (edited) its like some kind of "racist tourism" that we've been seeing in a lot of countries lately, i hope other countries have similar laws or at least locals should put them in their place because racists seem to like traveling. There's a common theme here. and Bahia is literally the most beautiful place on earth I can't wait to retire there with my Brazilian husband

Atrl is selectively posting stuff about Israelis while ignoring similar news stories about other people. 3
Mezik Posted November 10 Posted November 10 I hope more of these Israeli racist pieces of trash start to see that they're not invincible.
Ricardo1993 Posted November 11 Posted November 11 I just cant imagine being so miserable in life where I have to go out of my way to **** up someone's day just because they have darker skin pigmentation than I do Racist people are vermin.

Where is this energy for other crimes committed today? Why is the Israeli citizen gets singled out with a thread where everyone is ganging up on that? This is extended hate based on nationality which is strongly tied to ethnicity that has been vilified for millenia, that's why it's giving antisemitism. You are all horny to drag Israel, which is fine, but this isn't. It's time to stop playing the victim and making excuses for hate crimes committed by individuals or governments. Singling out one Israeli individual's actions and framing it as unfair criticism misses the point entirely. The reality is that the actions of Israeli citizens in the context of the broader government's policies cannot be separated from the ongoing suffering of countless individuals affected by these policies. Dismissing this criticism as "biased" only serves to perpetuate the status quo. It's not about ganging up on someone; it's about holding those in power accountable for their actions and acknowledging the impact these actions have on innocent lives. By continuing to defend such behavior, you not only embarrass yourself but also undermine the serious discussions that need to happen around accountability, justice, and human rights. Instead of deflecting to victimhood, let's confront the uncomfortable truths and seek a path towards genuine understanding and change. You're also deflecting from the legitimate concerns over systemic injustices faced by Palestinians and others affected by these policies. It's essential to recognize that principled criticism of a nation's actions is not the same as bigotry. Embarrassing attempts to downplay valid grievances only serve to perpetuate ignorance and silence necessary dialogue. Stop defending the indefensible and instead, let's address the issues authentically. Edited November 11 by Sharamee6
