ChooseyLover Posted November 6 Posted November 6 Am I the only one who's starting to feel a certain way about new acts trying to bring back the old school vibe? At first I LOVED it but now I'm like... can y'all come up with something original and genuine, please?

I chuckled when they sang about "took me back to the 90s" as they all give the vibe of being BORN in the early-mid 00s. It's my #1 issue with Flo (whose influences rather suspiciously are exclusively acts like Brandy, SWV, Faith Evans). Acts who were all active/peaked before they were even born lol. Something about that just feels slightly disingenuous. HOWEVER... This does indeed sound like No Guidnce's best song so far. My only worry is that this isn't a/the sound their home market (UK) tends to embrace commercially. Again, much like Flo, they seem to be reaching into the past to cultivate a sound/image they want to work now in a market that historically doesn't champion this kind of sound on a mass scale. One could say they are collectively trying to "be the change they want to see". But this is a business. At some point, it has to start making $$$ for everyone (the label, management, the band themselves) or it will evaporate. Sidebar: is it me or does it feel like their promo and overall presence seems limited to online? I don't see much push on radio or TV. 1

Yeah, that line is probably what triggered my comment, plus the insistence of bringing this sound (that I love) back. I'm European, born in the late 90s, and even my love for R&B had to be developed later on because I didn't have access to it. Sadly, the artists they are referencing weren't part of my childhood either. Destiny's Child, TLC and some Aaliyah songs buried deep in my memory were as far back as I went. Not sure if it'll be their best song but it sounds good. I think they must be getting some kind of Spotify push because I discovered them through listening to FLO.
troy4783 Posted November 16 Posted November 16 (edited) This might be up there as one of there best songs for me . Love this a lot . I wish the video followed the story of the trailer they teased though . Edited November 16 by troy4783
attention Posted November 16 Posted November 16 would like to hear a bit more UPBEAT and FUN tracks from them and this is in the right direction. i do agree, to echo the other comments in this thread, the referencing can come off tired i get for newcomers it's always in respect to pay homage to 80s-00s boyband eras & familiarity for the audience, but bc this has been done with prettymuch it can feel reductive
