Patti LuPone gets called out for microaggressions by a Hell's Kitchen cast member

Tony Award-winning actress Kecia Lewis from the Alicia Keys-penned musical Hell's Kitchen calls out Patti LuPone for refusing to sign a poster of the stage production claiming that they are "too loud".

LuPone also previously complained to the sound designers of the musical for the same issue.

Maybe they were indeed too loud and impacted LuPone's play that is literally next door? Not everything is a racially charged 'microaggression' :rip:

LuPone is careless and flippant. She's perpetuating the stereotype perhaps even without knowing it because she simply doesn't care about others.

The full clip which Miss Lewis left out includes her saying 'I'm not signing them, they are not mine.' She also does not address the issue at hand (whether there indeed was a sound bleed), to the point some of the commenters thought LuPone complained as an audience member, not an actor playing next door their show disrupted regularly.

LuPone also went to the sound team with her complaint (which many commenters who went to see Roommare seem to aggree on), they fixed the issue, and she sent flowers but that is also a 'problem' because she 'sidestepped' them?

Still rude and flippant. Other celebs would sign a used Burger King bag if that's all the fan had on them at the time. Unless those people were just nasty scalpers who try to get things signed so they can flip them on eBay, there's no need to be rude.

Then why continue to call them "too loud" to the public if the sound team fixed the issue? She threw her weight around and yet still isn't happy that she got what she wanted.

Girl just yesterday there was a viral tweet of Ariana purposefully ignoring a vinyl of My Everything, HER OWN album, signing everything in front of her but that one because she hates it :skull: LuPone is not obliged to sign a playbill for a play she's not in. Hell, as a HK cast member I would be actually mad if an old white woman signed it :rip:

Was this interaction before or after they fixed the issue? Yet again, Miss Lewis is extremely unclear on that. For all those carefully written big words, she sure does not paint a whole picture here to actually discuss the actual problem of the sound bleed, which would actually take out the 'racially charged microaggression' narrative she's going on about.

Not signing a playbill because a show is "loud" is definitely rude. And Ariana not signing her OWN album is just ridiculous. Patti Lupone seems to get away with a lot of rude behavior just because she's a Broadway legend.

That. As if Ariana being rude somehow makes it okay for Patti to be?

Once again, she did not sign it because 'the show is not hers', as stated in the full clip

Not everything is racist and really does a disservice to people experiencing actual racism. I hate that we live in a society where any form of criticism is attributed to some physical or cultural characteristic of the offended party. It's a really low effort argument.

nothing brings me more joy than seeing resident loudmouth and OG obsessed Madonna hater, Patti Lupone getting dragged to the pits of hell but this is a reach sorry.

Sometimes people don't want to accept criticism or believe that they are less than perfect so anything other than abject praise is taken as racism. This completely undermines those are forced to deal with actual racism.

I know y'all love Diva behavior!! but something about Patti's demeanor always rubbed me the wrong way. Her attitude just seems kinda mean.

i mean maybe there's a kernel of truth to this , i don't know how productive it is tho to actually have it resonate with Patti when you're doing it in a manner with the specific intent of garnering attention online instead of bringing these concerns to Patti herself … it says this woman is a Tony winner and in the production , i'd imagine she has some form of line of communication to at least send the message to Patti directly , but done in this way it smells like someone reaching for a viral moment
