Well I'm an astronomy undergraduate so... Guess miss Olivia wouldn't agree with me practicing the science I studied

I completely agree with her. We spend obscene amounts of money on space when it's been clear for decades that there is no other life in our solar system, much less anything sentient. And now they're talking about terraforming Mars?

Be for ******* real. :rip: It would cost trillions and still be a shitty place to live.

All of that money should be invested into Earth (i.e. climate change). We already have what we're looking for here.

Studying space is such a niche thing - there are very few people who actually work in studying it that you will come across in dating no less. Like does she really think she's gonna come across a bunch of guys who want to become astronauts? lol. Just feels like a super weirdly specific thing for her to drag so publicly (assuming this is not a complete joke). I do think we should devote SOME energy to exploring space to understand our universe a little better - maybe not go crazy overbudget when Earth has a ton of problems, which I can agree we kinda do presently, but I don't think we should completely wipe the space budget or discourage people from being curious about space.

Also a lot of times when people say "I wanna go to space someday"... it's kind of half joking and day dreaming. A cool idea but not realistic for 99% of  the pop... kind of like a little kid saying they want to be a popstar.  Most people are just saying it out of harmless curiosity.

She's right and she should say it.

i don't think her point applies to astronauts and other professionals working in areas related to space

it's more that if you want to be one of the first space tourists then maybe that's a bit conceited. unless of course space is a lifelong interest for you, which would surely be obvious in the first date and would mean ego isn't your motive

Not when the USA spends more than quadruple on military operation and subjugating nations.

I do think it is a bit nuts that we are trying to study other planets and stuff in the hopes of colonizing them and taking their resources while we have done irreparable to the planet we currently are on.

I study astronomy for fun

So am I a weirdo for wanting to explore space?

Her take is completely ignorant and people who don't want to know what's out there too

It's key to travel to another planet to save humanity in the next century

Climate Change, asteroids, nuclear war and even a massive volcanic explosion can end us.

And artists who charge people hundreds of dollars so that they can scream at you aren't also "a bit full" of themselves?

The thing is we can afford to research space AND invest in climate change. But, our government officials prefer that money go towards policing & the military :)

You'll get no argument from me there girls. lol

Again, space is cute but we've learned the basics at this point and it's clear that there is no other life that we can observe in the universe. Which means any other life out there is so far away that they would have to be so much more advanced than us to even make contact. We should let them come to us.

Don't you have to be full of yourself to be a popstar though? To go "I'm worth hundred of thousands of dollars in development and teams of people to make me famous and millions of people will buy an album fronted by me?"

End ha

Could've been a powerful statement actually and I get what she's trying to say but she chooses to go for guys.. who want to go to space :rip:Please.

this mindset is the real red flag :rip:

… wtf is this mentality? I like to travel and explore different places. It's always nice to see new things and learn about different histories and cultures. If someone came up to me and said "hey, do you want to go into space for a couple of days?" I'd absolutely say yes. It'd be a once in a lifetime opportunity that I wouldn't pass up.

Assholes like Elon Musk take things a bit too far obviously but let's be real… the only red flag here is someone who calls others self absorbed while in a profession that requires others to pay attention to her for success.
