Vermouth Posted November 2 Posted November 2 The U.K. Conservative Party has just elected the U.K's first black female party leader, Kemi Badenoch. Badenoch ( nee Olukemi Olufuntu Adegoke) was born in south London in 1980 but grew up in Nigeria before returning to the U.K. at 16. She is now the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament. Thoughts?
iconicyayo Posted November 2 Posted November 2 not really surprising. tories have somehow always been more diverse in their leaders and cabinet than labour. i really don't think they care as long as you're evil enough, and kemi certainly is
Virgos Groove Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Proving black women can also be evil Tories who hate the working class. Progress! 6 3
Janet Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Great pick. This might be the final nail to the Tory coffin
Princess Aurora Posted November 2 Posted November 2 (edited) I don't know who that is but okay I guess...... Edited November 2 by Princess Aurora

In part, it's because they can afford to have minorities as leaders without being slandered in the press. No one would confuse Thatcher for a radical feminist or Sunak for a left-wing civil rights leader. Meanwhile Labour can't even have slightly less posh white men as leaders (Gordon, Kinnock, Corbyn) without getting lambasted in the Daily Mail/The Sun. A black female Labour leader would unleash racism and misogyny not seen since the Titanic was still floating. 7 1
Letters From Adi Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Make a POC scapegoat the face of your party so that you can blame it on racism later on.
Dante Silva Posted November 2 Posted November 2 The conservatives are shameless and are happy to use an outward progressive stance as a tool to inflict as much damage as possible on the working class (whilst protecting corporations, business leaders and the elite) once they achieve public office. Do not be fooled!
Malkuth Posted November 2 Posted November 2 I don't think it's that big a deal tbh. If Donald Trump was a black woman I think he would still be nominated by Republicans. It's about rhetoric, ideology, etc. Jeremy Corbyn and Bernie Sanders are old straight white men but still are popular with progressives for the same reason, it's their beliefs and values that matter most. 3
Gelato Posted November 2 Posted November 2 sadly she's a mega terf. she also said she grew up privileged but became working class when she got a part-time job at mcdonald's when she was 16 anyway, i was always wary of accusations that she's very combative being rooted in racism/sexism. but she openly admits she hates dealing with the media and i listened to an interview she did with stig abell on times radio. god she was lashing out so much, accusing him of saying things he didn't say and challenging every word he used. she has a major problem being held accountable. she was also extremely patronising and adopted a bullying tone in her first questions session with angela rayner, someone who's actually working class. for those who follow uk politics closely, her cosplaying as regina george won't be a surprise. she's not exactly pleasant to her staff and is very mistrusting of them. just a heinous personality all round. combine this with the fact only 1/3 of conservative mps endorsed her and only 41% of the memberhip voted for her and it's a recipe for disaster. james cleverly, mel stride, damian hinds, rishi sunak staying on or hell, even priti patel, would've all been better options. but also why would i care about helping the tories out of their own mess

KillingYourCareer Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Nigeria is hella conservative and considering that she grew up there, I'm not surprised she shares conservative ideals
