Is it much different than how the VMAs, AMAs, or EMAs have operated this past decade? They might have more star power and a stronger legacy, but I'd argue they have just as little credibility and have become egregiously attendance-based. Don't get me wrong, the NRJ Music Awards are messy, especially in some hilariously outdated nominations (Shawn Mendes and Lil Nas X nominated for Best International Male Artist over Benson Boone and Teddy Swims who actually attended and won elsewhere ). But I can name similarly embarrassing moments from the former three anglophone ceremonies.
