The7thStranger Posted October 31 Posted October 31 (edited) No. It's Alanis going from a mall pop queen to Jagged Little Pill. Christina went from sexy pop songs to sexy pop songs. Edited October 31 by The7thStranger 4
HeavyMetalAura Posted October 31 Posted October 31 Sorry but I think Bangerz/Dead Petz takes the cake here. You could argue Can't Be Tamed was a taste of what to come, but it was basically an Elmo Tribute album in comparison to Bangerz. Not to mention she still released one more Hannah Montana album after Can't Be Tamed, so chronologically, the rebrand was Hannah Montana —> Bangerz 1
loveisdead9582 Posted October 31 Posted October 31 Katy's witness look and Miley's bangerz/rap era are both a bit more shocking.
RedCarpet Posted October 31 Posted October 31 She kinda spoiled it with Lady Marmalade so Stripped wasnt as drastic I would say Miley with Bangerz

The bratty rebel girl image and general lyrical content was already there in the first era. Get the Party Started had a bit of funk/urban edge/appeal to it including the delivery on the verses and the music video. The album was an eclectic genre mix (lots of influences from R&B, hip hop, soul, blues, dance etc.) and the production on the more rock songs (which aren't that many) was very subdued. Drastic would have been if she went CTMH -> Try This. 3
Cardcaptor Sakura Posted October 31 Posted October 31 Yes. But from Stripped to Back To Basics was more drastic.
Mr. Duff Posted October 31 Posted October 31 Yeah somehow the transition to Stripper was a bit drastic. Other examples: Under My Skin -> The Best Damn Thing Bangerz -> Dead Petz / Younger Now Lover -> Folklore

The way Miley did it was... abrasive, but still somewhat expected.
Beyonnaise Posted November 1 Posted November 1 It was pretty remarkable just because she was the one that went most quickly from good girl to rebellious between two albums, a template for child stars that we usually see play out over a span of like 6-7 years (with the most laughable recent example being Jojo Siwa). Britney was along the same sort of timeline as Xtina, but she released more albums in that window so her evolution felt more gradual. Miley's Can't Be Tamed felt forced and didn't have the impact it could have had in 2010, whereas Bangerz three years later felt removed enough from Hannah Montana to make the transition feel more like a real artistic shift.
ithinkheknowsoutsold Posted November 1 Posted November 1 Sonically, these two songs couldn't have been more different. How do you change so much between 19 and 25? (For anyone doubting this, play both songs and honestly tell me these don't feel like they're from completely different people).

They are both very similar, Typical SAW 80s pop perfection and confide in me isn't that far removed from that, don't forget sexy kylie was already out with both let's get to it and rythm of love
MatiRod Posted November 1 Posted November 1 It was quite drastic and people were geniunely shook and upset by the "Dirrty" video lol. I remember there were like programs on TV where moms would lambast her for being a bad role model for their daughters nnnnn And the way Xtina gave zero fucks was iconic

The problem with Can't Be Tamed is that it came across like a boring executive's version of a sanitized 'bad girl' era. It was very Jojo Siwa before Jojo Siwa was a thing. There was nothing actually boundary pushing about that era. She was still family-friendly, just like, while wearing a ~fierce~ outfit and black eyeliner and singing "I can't be tamed!" despite not actually acting untamed. Whereas Bangerz was just hyper sexual mess from day 1 and came across as almost trolling, but in a way that demolished her previous image and felt real. There was zero attempt to remain family-friendly.
