Wow more extreme rain predicted. What is going on?? I hope the volunteers go to a safe space because it can become even more of a tragedy

So awful, and events like this will only become more common if we do nothing about it

This wasn't climate change related. :rip:

I've read there have been multiple floods in that area since the 1300s.

Maybe scientists don't know that there have been floods in that area since there are records and that in 1957 there was a huge flood that made them replan the river and divert it outside the city so it didn't flood again, which is apparently what has happened now and the sole reason why the city itself has remained safe.

From what I read this is not even the time that has rained the most in an episode like this, that was in 1995 when the accumulation was way above the numbers we saw this time.

But yeah, climate this climate that I guess. :skull:

Not everything needs to be climate change related, hun...

Are you seriously suggesting that you (an homosexual in a music related forum, probably getting disinformation from Twitter) have more credibility than scientists that have spent their entire lives studying these events? :deadbanana2:

Here's an actual science-based source: "The low-pressure system driving these historic floods tapped into an atmospheric river carrying excess moisture from the unusually warm Tropical Atlantic. According to the Climate Shift Index: Ocean, these elevated sea surface temperatures were made at least 50 to 300 times more likely by human-caused climate change."

No one is denying that Valencia has experienced floods before, but this one was significantly stronger than any in the past. The 1957 flood, for example, killed 81 people—and that was before smartphones or instant red alerts were available.

pls stop spreading disinformation. The harm this causes is severe. hope this helps :heart2:

The images are so scary I hope no more loss of life and for people to be found

omg not Barcelona too, I booked a trip (months ago) there for this Friday and now I'm considering not going even if it means losing the money I spent on it :gaycat6:

Hopefully there are no more casualties though, but apparently this time they acted early and notified people in the area!

Do you even know where Valencia is? :skull:

The excess moisture was accelerated by the Mediterranean waters (not the Tropical Atlantic :skull:that are always warm at the end of the summer, that's why all of these floods historically occurred during the fall and at the end of the summer.

The harm that misinterpreting data and manipulating it to your advantage causes even more harm. Hope this helps in knowing **** when you're talking to someone who is from there and whose family has lived floods heavier than this one. The number of deaths is not closely linked to the severity of the situation, but rather to the lack of prevention from a political perspective.

The record for the heaviest rainfall in a shorter amount of time was in 1995, this time the accumulated

You making this all about climate change when it COULD very well be a factor that could make these rainfall episodes more common is very partisan of you. :heart2:

Oh god maybe with drawings you can understand better

That's great and your family's experience is one data point against.... thousands and millions of data points collected and investigated by scientists.

Scientists saying these episodes could be exacerbated doesn't mean that this episode was made worse by climate change, the death toll was a result of the lack of political action and prevention prior to the disaster.

I guess comprehension is not always a consequence of reading for some. :sistrens:

Wild. I just went to Valencia like 4-5 months ago and it was gorgeous
