BrokenMachine Posted October 30 Posted October 30 So awful, and events like this will only become more common if we do nothing about it 4
Illyboy Posted October 30 Posted October 30 (edited) A mutual on Discord told me that a classmate of theirs showed them images of their town yesterday morning and it could be deduced something big would happen. The authorities should've reacted sooner and cancelled work/school but alas. Many people went to work bc it was a workday and got trapped, also people who went to uni etc. Only "good" thing is that this didn't happen on the city of Valencia itself (the river Turia was diverted out of the city centre after a big flood in 1957 so now the city itself barely suffered from wind and not much else), most of the damage is elsewhere in the province/region. My heart goes out to everyone who lost a dear one to this. I cannot be more disappointed at the authorities. PM was in ******* India while people were dying off due to the floods, he only did a short statement today- where were you yesterday ***** Edited October 30 by Illyboy PM not MP
Illyboy Posted October 30 Posted October 30 I hope no one from atrl was affected by this because the images are everywhere on TV and social media here and damn they're harrowing.
Ger Posted October 30 Posted October 30 I saw the news since yesterday, what a disaster. I hope the worst part already occurred.
UnusualBoy Posted October 30 Posted October 30 I saw images early today and it's awful, hope the situation is better soon and RIP to all the victims from this disaster.
AvadaKedavra Posted October 30 Posted October 30 Heartbreakin. What a tragedy. What happened with the woman grabbing a tree? Peores cosas vendran.
Princess Aurora Posted October 30 Posted October 30 This is a tragedy :( It's a shame this happened. RIP to the victims
zzmyth Posted October 31 Posted October 31 More than 160 death already. It was insanely devastating in such a short period of time... wow
thatsmydemi Posted November 1 Posted November 1 Over 200 death now. Unacceptable. So many lives could've been saved. 2

They gave SMS alerts at 8pm when there were already people drowining, at midday they said it was just going to be a regular rain when some towns were already experiencing overflows. 2
Illyboy Posted November 1 Posted November 1 The official number of deaths is now above 200. And it's likely much larger because of the indeterminate amount of missing people (in the hundreds). People are outraged, and with reason.
Illyboy Posted November 1 Posted November 1 I will send some tweets later but basically the authorities just put the number of missing people at 1900 provisionally. That + the already >200 confirmed deaths means there might be up to 2000 deceased people because of this. I'm fuming rn
Illyboy Posted November 1 Posted November 1 I really hope the GP snaps and does something to change the political system because it is clearly not working,
Illyboy Posted November 2 Posted November 2 https://x.com/rtvenoticias/status/1852661787134489014 ofc they will wait to TUESDAY to declare "severely affected zone" Because they are on puente (vacation) and ig on monday they gotta rest??? THEY SHOULD'VE DONE THAT ON ******* THURSDAY NOT A WEEK LATER ISTG-
Antisocialites Posted November 2 Posted November 2 @Chemist thread title needs to be updated, there at least 200+ people dead and more than 2000 people are missing.

I'm not sure how it is in Spain, but here in NL, people often ignore weather service alerts. This is because more often than not, the alerts tend to overreact and the actual impact of the weather event is minimal. I don't blame the weather services tho because I understand that predicting the weather (especially flash flood events) is becoming increasingly challenging. it seems that ins this case they are partially to blame though
