constantinople Posted October 29 Posted October 29 (edited) https://www.poder360.com.br/poder-eleicoes/direita-e-centro-dominam-prefeituras-no-brasil-em-2024/ The political parties most aligned to the right and center of the political-ideological spectrum emerged stronger from the 2024 elections. The right won 2,673 mayoralties, including 11 of the 26 state capitals. This increased by 5% compared to 2020, when these parties won 2,539 mayoralties. This is the best result since the 2000 municipal elections. The center elected mayors in 2,144 cities. This remained stable compared to the 2020 result, when it won 2,166 mayoralties. The left continued on the downward trajectory that began in 2016 and had its worst result since the 2000 election. Even with Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) as the president, there was no progress in state elections. The left-wing parties together won 752 mayoral elections in 2024, 13% less than in 2020, when they had won 863 mayors. The victories of these parties were mostly concentrated in the Northeast – mainly in Ceará and Bahia. It is in this region that Lula and the PT (Workers' Party) are best rated, according to a PoderData survey in October 2024. The result of the 2024 election continues the trend of the right rising and the left falling. This situation became more evident in 2016, after the impeachment of former president Dilma Rousseff (PT) and the Lava Jato operation, which arrested PT politicians accused of corruption. Despite of the left's retreat, President Lula's PT (Workers' Party) elected 252 mayors across Brazil (68 more than in 2020). The party, however, is still far from its golden years. In 2012, at its peak, before Operation Car Wash, it won in 635 cities. PL (Liberal Party), led by former president Jair Bolsonaro, grew by a margin greater than that of the PT. The party led went from 351 municipalities to 517, an increase of 47% compared to the last elections (2020). This is the largest number of cities under the party's leadership in history. PL was the second party that grew the most in nominal terms compared to the 2020 election. Centrist PSD (Social Democratic Party) is in the lead. It went from 662 to 891 victories at the polls, 229 more than 2020. Edited October 29 by constantinople
bielneira Posted October 29 Posted October 29 Honestly? That's very sad, especially in a place like Brazil.
Selegend Posted October 29 Posted October 29 (edited) Right and far-right is now seem as the "anti-system" and that's very popular right now, especially on the internet age of disinformation. On top of that, Lula's 3rd act at the presidency is not that approved rn. And right and far-right don't have rejection when it comes to municipal elections, they never had. For example when it comes to São Paulo City they've probably won the vast % of it's elections. When we talk about Nunes, Tarcisio, they don't have high rejection It's different when it's against someone like Bolsonaro. Brazil has shifted for the right and that's a fact. But is it FAR right? Maybe i'm being hopeful but i don't think so... The left only has chances if it's against someone like Bolsonaro If someone more center-right gains traction it's over for Lula in 2026. But I thought Bolsonaro was declared ineligible to run until 2030? I'm saddened by the situation in Brazil because I thought that Lula's election would have given a second wind for the left... why is his policy being disapproved rn? Sorry for all the questions, just curious Edited October 29 by Bocanada
SeeingStars1515 Posted October 29 Posted October 29 As my friend and I always say - people aren't sure what they want in general from political leaders
Letters From Adi Posted October 29 Posted October 29 And I thought things got fine with Lula coming back
Movimento Perpétuo Posted October 29 Posted October 29 Eh, it's always been this way. Nothing very outrageous or out of this world, unfortunately.

Sorry for all the questions, just curious Quote But I thought Bolsonaro was declared ineligible to run until 2030? He is, but he is still very strong and popular. A major part of his supporters are brainwashed "ride of die for him people." Also, he has lots of "pupils" which are very popular, way younger than him and starving to get in the power. Unfortunately, we won't get rid of bolsonarism for a long time. They'll be here and we just have to deal it with them, I guess. Quote I'm saddened by the situation in Brazil becauseI thought that Lula's election would have given a second wind for the left... Most of us thought about it as well, but when you really think about it, Lula just won for a "miracle", let's say that. He won for a very small landslide. The brazilian left is still trying to pick up the rebuild the ounce of reputation that they have left, that our corporative media helped to destroy during the 2010s. It's not a easy job. Plus, most of the brazilian left is still trying to figure out how to handle and how to do politics for the masses in the digital age. Most of'em are still very behind of it, while the far-right has been doing great with this since the late 2010. That's definitely has results in the elections and the mass approval. Quote why is his policy being disapproved rn? Well, Brazil is very polarizing nowadays. The media and Lula's enemies tarnished his reputation so bad that will be pratically impossible to him to get back to his 'glory' days. He is still called of "thief" and sorta. Personally, I'm enjoying his policy. Should've it better? Absolutely! Especially in the environment and social justice agendas. But we have to keep in mind, his government is basically a coalizion government. He HAD to join forces, and to keep submissive to very powerful center and right politicans to get the minimum of laws' approval. With that, he had to avoid lots of things that the left-wing fights for and approves. It's not a easy job. 1
