CEO of AEG: Taylor Swift refused to enable dynamic pricing for The Eras Tour

Jay Marciano, CEO of Taylor's concert promoter AEG Presents, in his new interview with HDD:

Quote

Beyond the fact that Taylor Swift is a one of one, what have you learned from the success of the Eras Tour?

There are a number of things Taylor did that other artists wouldn't contemplate doing. One is, she had an opportunity to dynamically price her tickets, and she didn't want to do that to her fans. She specifically said, "No dynamic pricing." She was willing to make decisions that potentially cut into her income because she was taking a long-term view of her career. That long-term view applied to every decision she made throughout the tour: over-deliver on the show, over-deliver on the production, don't overcharge on the merchandise. Every part of the tour was set up to position her for the next tour and the tour after that.

Quote

The other thing is that she busted through globally and defined herself as a global superstar. She's every bit as big everywhere around the world as she is in North America. In the decades that I've been doing this, I've never seen anything like it. I may never see anything like it again. I wasn't around for The Beatles, but it's a phenomenon in that category.

The real MPG :giraffe:

I remember the discourse around this and how some stans tried to blame Taylor when it was the other MPG who did this to inflate numbers

This is like the 5th time this is being reported and I think she was highly praised for it even when the Eras tickets first dropped :dies:

The prices were okay-ish in the US. The prices you keep seeing in the media are the resale prices

I mean it's obvious because considering the demand, if dynamic pricing was on the tickets would have been like $10k for restricted view

  1. The prices were still over the top
  2. Her fans would still buy
  3. Kudos to her for this, some artists (including few of my faves) should learn

The tickets and merch are already expensive enough and she dishes out a new version of her album every week or so.

These American MPG are obsessed with money. Stop thinking they are doing you a favor, they are not.

And yes this includes my fave, before you quote me with a weak drag attempt.

How were her prices over the top when cheap seats were $100? :rip:

Other artists were charging $350-$400+ for the very back row of the highest level..

Your fave HAD dynamic pricing. So not only she's not doing you a favor, she's exploiting you.

Yes, I paid like $379 or so for 5th row at center diamond. I recently saw pricing for the rep tour, and it looked like that close to the stage was over $500.
