Aside from dating apps, I don't really see ageism in other corners of the internet. I could be wrong. It's not like I'm a part of a lot of online communities lol

 

Older men on Reddit talk about stuff like Lord of the Rings, movies, sports, etc without ridiculing each other about their age. 
 

What is it about a bunch of gays talking about music and pop culture on ATRL that makes it feel like you should stop at a certain age?

you can stan anyone at any age. it just gets embarrassing at a certain age if you can't have opinions outside of your fave, and you still stuck in that cult-like personality

People of all ages should be able to enjoy the site and stan who they want but I feel like there's a certain level headedness and maturity that should come with age   I see takes on here that would make sense coming from someone in their 20s but be very alarming for anybody older (I'm 48)

No lol, it's rampant in most popular culture forums from what I've seen unless it's a space specifically catered to older people.

 

And it's not a new phenomenon either, Madonna has been attacked for being "old" since she was in her 30s and still gets attacked for not acting the way older people think older people are supposed to act.

personally I would never make fun of someone for being old, but I'll for sure make fun of a 40-year old on ATRL who's main job seems to be bullying women who are a decade younger than them

Nobody said you should stop liking music at a certain age. They said you should stop stanning like a psychopathic teen when you are a full grown man. With that being said ive seen old sports fans throw full on tantrums, cry, crash out and even attack each other physically over their favorites sports teams so by those standards I'd say ATRL is pretty tame.
