But she is right though, that she should absolutely be getting more money from streams. Streaming KILLED the industry to be honest, and it is probably why most of them dont bother promoting that much anymore - there's barely any money in streaming

Touring & logistic costs now are inflated as hell and if you don't sell out everywhere you're risking slashing into your profits to keep things on the road. Some artists are doing it in hope that it will establish their brand so that they can go bigger later but for theatre-size artists like Lily it's absolutely razor thin margins. 

 

She could release more music, but that has a huge cost too - Studio bookings, writers fees, producers fees, engineers fees, promotion & marketing fees, etc. 

 

It costs her nothing to take a foot pic, not to mention PPV and DM commissions and whatever the OF people do to milk the whales out of extra money. She's probably also making decent coin off the podcast she's been doing on BBC which is way more economical use of her time too.

 

She has always said she viewed music as a business foremost and if it wasn't profitable she wasn't going to do it.

It depended on the contract, but mostly yes. Big singers were able to be set for life with just music releases, and they didn't need to tour at all. There was way less competition tho, so I guess it gets leveled with that

Well, she was born a millionaire, so her focus goes more into maintaining her lifestyle, rather than working to get by

Tinashe is an independent artist and owns her masters, and while she still has to pay her manager and for other expenses, she gets to keep more money per stream than Lily Allen does.
