in 2000, Canada had the same population as Texas. now it has the same population as California

just to put it in context. i know only the border provinces of canada are habitable but it's still a massive land. the fact they can't handle a population of only 40 million is laughable

Glad he FINALLY realized it's better this way. After everything that happened in the last years… it's better for everyone including immigrants!

Just in time for elections. Pretending to fix the problem they created.

What a sovereign nation does with its borders is entirely up to them, that goes for about any country tbh

Crazy how progressives fell hook line and sinker for the neocon "labor shortage" bs

Being stupid enough to fall victim to anti-immigrant propaganda genuinely feels like the signal of a low IQ at this point. There's no non-reactionary way - which misdiagnoses suffering - that someone finds themselves shouting to close down borders.

This is a good thing. The immigration system is overwhelming everything in Canada. It wasn't sustainable at the current levels.

Still using IQ as a measure of intelligence feels the signal of racism at this point.

We agree on Trudeau's low IQ though.

Thank God he said "coming to Canada", and I'm already here :hippo: (I still need to get my PR tho :jonny5:

As a Canadian, this was the right decision. We do not have the homes, infrastucture or jobs to absorb this level of immigration. It's also a problem he created.

Who's going to believe that :rip:

Surprise. Governments aren't interested in investing in housing, infrastructure, and jobs :sistrens:I'm wondering why.....

Before Trudeau (2015) Canada accepted in average around 250,000 immigrants per year. Since Trudeau, it jumped to over 300,000 from 2015 to the pandemic. After the pandemic, the Trudeau government accelerated the number of new comers and since 2021, Canada accepted 500,000 immigrants per year and he was planning to accept 1 million immigrants per year for the next decade to bring Canada's population to 100 million by 2100. Sure Canada is big enough to host all these people but the problem is not there.

All these new comers need a house or an apartment, they need to access the health and school system. But those systems are built for a certain number of person, and when it was around 250,000 immigrants per year, the capacity was still in balance because it had time to fallow the immigration curve. But now with double the number of new arrivals and even more if he had not backed down, the capacity of the systems is collapsing because the pressure is way too high. School classes are accepting more students than they should, the situation in emergency rooms has become unsustainable because there are too many people and not enough hospitals and doctors for the demand.

The percentage of new constructions doesn't fallow the percentage of the population, creating housing shortages, demand is too high so prices skyrocket. Same thing for food, demand has increased so much that producers are struggling to produce enough to support all these people, and combined with rising energy prices, the average grocery basket costs more than 30% more than it did 10 years ago.

It's not about Canada's area capacity, it's about the exploding number of new comers that affect all facets of the society. With the original 250,000 immigrants per year we were still the country in the G7 with the highest immigration rates, and by far. With the current 500,000, the situation is just catastrophic and Canada is falling apart due to it.

He's only doing that because he's 15-20% down from the Conservative party in the polls and he knows that immigration became worrying for Canadians, he's an opportunist

Your "context" makes no sense. How many provinces aren't border provinces?
